I've been using BI for over 8 years now and am up to a dozen cameras at 1080p or higher resolution. I run this on a Lenovo i7 "tiny PC" (bought for $20 from a company surplus sale) and it's been working great. Idles at around 20% CPU most the time, however I recently upgraded 3 of my older cameras to newer and higher resolution cameras and system idle had climbed to 30-40% and would often jump to over 50, sometimes over 60% running both the server console and a web console on LAN.
So... I had never really understood the purpose of sub streams and had always just disabled them. However I did some searching to see what I could do to lower my CPU usage (and power usage since this is running 24/7). I stumbled upon a thread about BI CPU optimization and decided to give the sub streaming a try. Well, I'm blown away to say the least. I have been able to up the framerate to 15-20 fps on all my cameras and the resolution on a couple of them and am astounded to seem my CPU idle at around 9 to 12 percent! Higher frame rate, higher resolution, and a fraction of the CPU/power use. I now have enough overhead to feel confident in adding even more cameras if I want to without worrying about burning up my computer.
If you're not utilizing sub streams, I highly recommend you give it a try.
Side note: My only complaint right now is that the newer version 5.5+ has broken my timelapse camera clones that were working fine on 5.4- versions. It shows that there is video, but when I try to play it it tells me it's corrupted. This is using the alt timelapse record settings. I know lots of people do timelapse using jpeg outputs and recompiling, but that just seems like a giant hassle when BI already has a timelapse recording setting available. I hope they fix this because I'm back to just recording full 12hour clips and using the timelapse export function when I want to save something cool, but at the expense of disk space saving all that redundant video.

Just wondering if you've found any particular game to look good with streaming/game settings forced to 1440p on an HD monitor.
My brief take is that any recent title with good antialiasing doesn't much benefit from this, and the OS may or may not gracefully handle the downscale anyway.
I have a bunch of different videos with a misaligned video/audio streams and in all these cases misaligned streams have their start_pts and start_time not set to 0.00 value but to some different (random?) one.
I know I can correct this by using this (or similar) Windows batch command:
ffmpeg -itsoffset %valuev% -an -i "%input%" -itsoffset %valuea% -vn -i "%input%" -c copy "%output%"
But the problem is that these %valuev%and %valuea% parameters need to be different for each file.
I was looking for some "simpler" ffmpeg's option where I can (re)set the start point of any stream (or all streams in the input file) to 0.00 but I can't find it. Does something similar to these examples below exist?
ffmpeg -some_option_I_need 0.00 -an -i "%input%" -some_option_I_need 0.00 -vn -i "%input%" -c copy "%output%"
or:
ffmpeg -i "%input%" -some_option_I_need:v 0.00 -some_option_I_need:a 0.00 -c copy "%output%"
I could use such option for all files at once and do not bother to specify different values -itsoffset needs for each different file.
I've been looking at lots of peoples different custom PC setups and battlestations, and I'm looking for ideas for my own setup. I currently use two monitors, but I notice that alot of people have either an Ipad or a tablet or a streamdeck macro switcher usually behind their keyboards under their monitors. Just wondering what the advantages of this are? I understand the streamdeck provides macros for easy switches, app launching, and abilities particularly useful for streamers; but does it really provide advantages for just a common work/gaming station? And are tablets simply being used as an extra screen, or do they provide some sort of system control capabilities or other advantages? Any info would be appreciated
