A list of puns related to "Unionized cooperative"
Worker cooperatives are part of, and integral to, the labor movement. Worker cooperatives achieve the goal of the labor movement, i.e. returning the means of production to the ownership of the workers and achieving 100% workplace democracy.
The cooperative movement and the trade union movement both have deep roots in liberation struggles for economic independence, from reconstruction and the ongoing fight to build Black economic power in the United States, to post-industrial revolution Manchester, UK, and even further back, to indigenous methods of mutual care. Labor unions and worker cooperatives are not an βeither/orβ option of organization but work together in solidarity to achieve similar goals. Each path provides the means for workers to have power and influence in their daily work lives. While cooperative ownership may bring additional earnings through the sharing of surplus and foster human dignity through worker control, the union movement has a rich history of raising the floor for entire sectors of workers, and assuring industry regulations, workplace safety, and agreements for wages and hours. Together, worker cooperatives and labor unions improve conditions for workers across the board. These all build a broader environment for good work.
Worker cooperatives have become an increasingly popular model for businesses seeking to plan their succession of ownership. Union workplaces are often prime spaces for conversions to worker-ownership. Workers in unionized workplaces already practice workplace democracy through the selection of their labor unions, elections of union leaders, and development and ratification of union contracts. Similarly, a collective bargaining agreement already created by a union can effectively be or become the policy manual that governs a worker cooperative. On a very pragmatic level, union cooperation supports a smooth and equitable shift to worker ownership.
Many cooperative developers have entered the field to support these conversions, and we encourage more support for helping workers purchase their businesses as worker cooperatives. We also want to affirm that worker co-ops can emerge in sectors and workplaces where labor organizing is taking place β in collaboration with the unions organizing there. Worker cooperatives and unions go hand in hand to resist exploitation and secure power for workers. If the worker cooperative comm

I'm an IBEW local 520 electrician and I'd like to eventually start a worker owned electrical contracting company. Do these exist anywhere in the US? If they do, I'd really like to get in touch with them.

Title says it all
I've posted about this in a different subreddit here but due to the conversations we've been having the last few days I feel the need to mention it. It's an idea I had, pretty simple and self explanatory, unions and worker cooperatives should work together and form our own organization.
I have lots of reasons that I could go into, but the idea is that both of these things are hard to do: union busting fuckers harassing you on the union side, and the difficulty of finding capital on the worker cooperative side etc. Also many people can participate in this, not everyone works for a company that can unionize, some people like me want to work for themselves and participate in a solidarity economy. We have been needing some kind of uniting effort for a long time, people just say start a revolution but that's...vague lol like there are just no clear steps, and I'm not saying my idea is ironclad but it's somewhere to start. One of the reasons capitalists are so powerful is their ability to be interconnected together like a web of evil lol. Small business tyrants and billionaires often have the same goals and opinions. They even have their own organizations like this, they're called the chamber of commerce lol!
I will also note that this theory is building off of adrienne maree browns book Emergeny Strategy and the book Leadership & The New Science by Margaret Wheatley. It's basically political biomimicry, inventing things using principles already existing in nature. SCOUW is inspired by Kombucha SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) it's a pellicle created by the kombucha itself to lay on top of the liquid, protecting everything underneath.
They only accept like 65 students and my teacher told me that heβs only ever had like three students that he thought could get in and im one of them and man im just excited to start the home test already jdksbdnd
I only know one other person who applied to this school, and it doesn't seem to have much of a presence online either. Why not? It is ranked very high in most rankings and it is not too expensive, so why isn't it more well known? I know that it is small and exclusive and is known to be very challenging, but are there any other bad things? I am considering applying ED to Cooper, so I am curious to know if there are any other factors I should be wary of.
Thanks
What makes the engineering (mechanical) faculty stand out about cooper union?
I'm applying there and I really want to know if it will be a good fit for me.

So Iβve been an avid cook all my life, I come from a greek family of food industry folk, graduated a culinary community college program in 2019 and since then Iβve been trying to start a probiotic food worker cooperative. Iβve had gut illness since birth and Iβm very passionate about food security, workers rights and using probiotic food specifically to achieve these goals. ππ¦
The more I have learned about probiotic bacteria over the years the more I have somewhat accidentally pieced together what I call a political theory based on the movement of probiotic bacteria. Itβs essentially just a form of biomimicry (link definition below) also inspired adrienne maree brownβs book Emergent Strategy and Margaret Wheatleyβs Leadership & The New Science. SO onto my point
Iβve been working on this idea of creating an interconnected web of workers hoping to create unions, and worker hoping to create cooperatives. My reasoning here is they have their own pros and cons respectively but fit together like a puzzle it creates a situation where we all have the resources to genuinely have solidarity for eachother and build a collective power, think of it like the chamber of commerce but run by the people who actually wake up and do the work every day. Imagine that lol
Benefits of Worker Cooperatives & Unions working together
a lot of working people have good business ideas but cannot invest in them because we are all poor and do not have capital, a unique advantage of the enemy
Not everyone wants to start a cooperative, and not everyone works at a company ripe for unionization. This way everyone can contribute something, even if itβs just the community supporting us by buying our goods.
Workers can be paid for their community input unlike now where if you want to contribute you have to do it for free, just simply impossible for a lot of us because we are already overworked and experiencing poverty
We can do more to support our union friends! Unions have a lot of HEAT on them that worker coops donβt really have, union busting law firms make thousands a day to target individual people. Itβs disgusting and there needs to be an local organization greater than the union itself to support them. Bringing sandwiches to the picket line simply will not cut it! A union having a greater band of support that doesnβt include only people that work there helps us be more prepared for those fights.
Like I mentioned before with the chamber of commerce, in a c
