I really hope Ellen Burstyn gets in SA this yr

Despite the fact that her monologue didn't really make sense... her acting was so great and it was awesome to see. I'm also still not over the snub she experienced for RFAD so it would be cool to see her get nominated.

This week we will be discussing The Exorcist from 1973, starring Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow and Linda Blair.

Here's the trailer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDGw1MTEe9k

I had a friend who refused to watch this movie (and any others involving people being possessed), because with her catholic upbringing it was the one thing that truly instilled fear in her. It's interesting hearing the different stories of why or what about a movie scares people. What about this movie did you find creepy, scary or just uncomfortable?

If Glenn Close had Ellen Burstyn's role in Pieces of a Woman, would she be a lock to win Best Supporting Actress this year?

Let's be real here- Close only has a chance at being nominated for Hillbilly Elegy because she's Glenn Close.

Ellen Burstyn has a legitimately excellent performance as Vanessa Kirby's mother in Pieces of a Woman, but I believe she was miscast. At 88, she looks way too old be the mother of the Kirby, 32.

Glenn Close, at 73, would have been more believable as Kirby's mother, and given her acting skills, could have probably performed on par with fellow legend Burstyn.

Assuming she had been cast instead, would Close be running away with the Oscar this year? If she had been nominated for the movie, could she have also boosted Kirby in the lead category?

(Fun fact: Close's RL daughter is the same age as Kirby!)

Ellen Burstyn, in my opinion, was much more deserving of the Best Actress Oscar than Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich

I’m sure this has been talked about it in some way a thousand times. I was just thinking about Requiem For a Dream and the powerful performance Ellen Burstyn delivered and wondered to myself why she didn’t receive an Oscar for it. Welp my thoughts then went to, β€œwell that’s got to be one really great performance to beat that!” searches Wikipedia frantically ... omg ... reads out loud β€œJULIA FUCKING ROBERTS!!” Now I have an over looming resentment towards The Oscars... Ok I haven’t watched Erin Brockovich in forever, and I’m not discrediting her ability, but no performance, by any actress, has stuck with me like Ellen Burstynβ€˜s in Requiem For a Dream. Rant over...

Why I think Ellen Burstyn plays Claire's Mother in the Season 4 Trailer.

So I read somewhere on here that there were cars spotted on set that had Dallas license plates - indicating that it is likely Claire will be returning to her hometown at some point this season, which I think will be the first thing she does.

At 0:24 into the trailer, Claire is seen wearing the same outfit she left Frank in. She turns quickly, and someone with a bald head is looking at her before sliding out of site. At 0:27, we see the wonderful Ellen Burstyn sitting at a mirror wearing the same sweater that the bald-headed person was wearing (black, beads on shoulders).
