A list of puns related to "The Brand New Testament"
I can't find any satisfactory historical research about the christian holy scriptures, thus the next clue I am looking for is whether the Catholic Church did ever have the total monopoly of the press. In such case I guess the New Testament should be considered as pure propaganda. It would not be the first time in history that history itself has been rewritten, that a God has been invented (e.g. France 17th century, Japan before ww2). Could the Vatican State have operated a cultural revolution similarly to the Chinese ones?
I was greeted by a "tire pressure low" light in my car this morning.......JOY! Assuming the usual, I rushed to get ready for work and buzzed by Firestone for a $30 patch. NOPE! "Sorry, but the location of the needed patch is along the side wall. We aren't allowed to patch those and you'll need a new tire." OK, fine.....it just went from $30 to $170.......AWESOME! Then he mentions the hazard road side offered by Costco (where I purchased the tires a year ago) and I'm all like "OH, YEAH!" Had him air up the tire, I went on to work and waited for Costco to open at 10. Called......blah blah blah.......took my car in.....yadda yadda yadda........"The replacement tire cost will be prorated based upon the amount of tread loss on the current tire." Great......but it's bound to be less than $170, so I'll take it! Turns out to be $25, BUT I kiiiiiiiinda let my membership run out (I do this every year until I need toilet paper again, then I re-up). So now I'm back up to $70......SUPER, still down $100 right? They finish my car and I go to pay for everything (fingers crossed that since it's the tire center, they won't notice my expired membership). He pokes around on the register.....tells another guy "It's doing it again" and tells me "Just a moment ma'am." No problem and I just sat back down for 5 minutes. Finally he calls me over, types up a few things, and he hands me my keys......... "Don't you want me to pay you?" "Nope, you don't owe us anything, have a great day." BAM! Thank you citrine!!!
The Watchtower Society is quite familiar withThe Watchtower Society is quite familiar with Pastor Johannes Greber and his translation of The New Testament. They have quoted him at least nine times in their publications dating from 1956 to 1983.
Seven of the quotations were of a positive nature and were used to support the Society's translation of certain biblical passages (such as John 1:1).
The other two were negative in that they exposed Greber as a spiritist who relied on the spirit world to help him translate his New Testament.
In typical Watchtower fashion, the Society got as much mileage out of Greber as possible and when their hand was exposed, they sanctimoniously tossed him aside.
It all began in 1956 in the Watchtower. Greber was revealed as a spiritist who translated the New Testament with help from God's spirits. The article says, in part:
"Says Johannes Greber in the introduction of this translation of the New Testament, copyrighted in 1937: `I myself was a Catholic priest, and until I was forty-eight years old had never as much as believed in the possibility of communicating with the world of God's spirits. The day came, however, when I involuntarily took my first step toward such communication and experienced things that shake me to the depths of my soul...'
"In keeping with his Roman Catholic extraction Greber's translation is bound with a gold-leaf cross on its stiff front cover...Very plainly the spirits in which ex-priest Greber believes helped him in his translation" (15 February).
Exposing Greber as a spiritist was certainly the right thing to do and, in fact, was consistent with the Society's teaching on spiritism over the years.
In the 1965 edition of the book, Make Sure Of All Things, Hold Fast To What Is Fine, they say, "Practice of any form of spiritism brings divine disapproval" (p. 469) and, "Destroy objects related to spiritistic practices" (p. 470).
In the 1968 book The Truth That Leads To Eternal Life, they say, "One of the ways that wicked spirits mislead men and women is through spiritism...The Bible warns us to keep from every practice associated with spiritism... God condemns every kind of spiritism" (p. 61).
Finally, in the 1978 booklet Unseen Spirits, Do They Help Us? or Do They Harm Us? they write, "In ancient Israel God commanded that anyone who practices spiritism was to be stoned to death" (p. 30); and, "According to his inspired Word, Jehovah God hates all such practices no matter what form they take or o

EDIT: The relevant verses Christians making this claim ignore:
> Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19)
Thank you guys for pointing this out!
EDIT 2: Made it to r/all. Hello everyone!
EDIT 3: Wow, my first award! Thank you, kind stranger!
EDIT 4: Second silver award! Thank you lots!
Also, surprising to see how many Christians aren't aware that some tout this "Jesus fixing" argument. I can assure you I'm not misrepresenting or straw-manning. I'm simply expression a common answer we tend to hear in response to Old Testament laws.
Hi all, long time lurker here, just wanted to get your opinions on this before i bring it up with the builder/contractor.
This is a new construction home, closed last month. during the initial design phase, i specifically requested 2x cat6 drops in every room that terminate into a closet (with an a/c vent!) and to prepare the closet for a small 18u rack.
anyway today i tried to connect my PC to one of the ports in the office room, both ports don't work. i am familiar with punching down and terminating cables, so i tested them and found there was an issue so i opened up the wall covers. anyway this is what i found where all the cables meet up in the closet. is it just me or is this a terrible job to splice/extend the runs within the wall like this?
sorry i don't know how to attach pictures this is my first attempt
any help / insight is appreciated!
1st edit: i've requested the contractor to put in a 42" enclosure that can reach the cables, a patch panel inside of it, and then the runs on the left to get to the rack. what do yall think of the idea? (and the expert mspaint skills) lol
When people talk about greatness, people often overlook durability and reliability with regards to health. We all know how well LeBron takes care of his body, but with all the recent talk about how injured everyone is, itβs crazy to think that LeBron has made his way to the finals 9 times without any serious injury. It seems as though that level of wear and tear would destroy even physically gifted human beings. His recent groin strain is arguably the worst injury heβs ever had in his NBA career.
Has he ever sat out of a playoffs game due to injury?
Personally I reckon Veteran Harry would make for a very gritty drama about the effects of war on our soldiers. And In The Little Wood would be primed for children's TV.
I never played the original, so for me I was confused.
In this game, we learn that Tifa owns the bar. Barrett and Marlene also live at this bar for some reason. Also holy crap, Marlene looks incredibly similar to Tifa - like a daughter.
So Iβm thinking, oh, maybe they all live together, since Tifa seems like she takes care of Marlene when Barret isnβt around. Are they married or together? But then we see she has her own apartment. At this point Iβm thinking they arenβt together ?
Later on we see a memory from Tifa of her at the bar with Marlene and Marlene asks her βis Daddyβs coming home tonightβ. Tifa says βno I donβt think heβs coming tonightβ. This is something you say to you daughter 100% or if youβre talking about your husband/partner. Now Iβm really confused, seems like she is the mother?
I noticed that Marlene doesnβt call her mommy or anything, just Tifa - ok so now Iβm still unsure again. Tifa and Barret donβt really share any romantic moments either, but they do mention rebuilding the bar together - and various conversations throughout about taking care of Marlene together. They really act like parents to Marlene together.
Now, I know that she is a love interest of Cloud just based on some prior passing knowledge and I assume that they will explain most of these things later on. But it seemed to me like they purposefully wanted you to be unsure about it?
Even if they had Marlene call her βbig sisβ or having another Avalanche member help take care of Marlene in some cutscenes wouldβve made it seem much more clear about the dynamics.
As someone who never played the original it was a weird situation that wasnβt explained well imo. Like, if I was Cloud I would be very confused about the nature of their relationship too.
Anyway, I obviously never played the original,so Iβm not sure if it was handled better in that game. But did anyone else get confused here or just me?
Anyone who claims that the Bible does not explicitly condone slavery clearly hasn't read the New Testament very closely.
In the very short Book of Philemon, the apostle Paul is penning a letter to the owner of a runaway slave. He is writing on behalf of the slave, yes, and urging the slave owner to do the right thing....
However, the apostle Paul is still instructing this runaway slave to return to his owner despite the fact that in that time and culture, runaway slaves could be punished by immediate execution.
The apostle Paul and the early church cared more about the fact that slavery was the "law of the land" than they did about protecting this man's life.
The Bible condones slavery, full stop.
Fuck the Bible.
So I'm nearly done reading all of Old Testament and I've really enjoyed reading it so far and I'm really looking forward to reading New Testament because I keep hearing that there are going to be crazy crazy things happening in it, so my question is:
Do you consider New Testament to be vastly superior to Old Testament in terms of writing, character development, interactions between characters, the overall plot and story, the themes of the story, the intrigue of the story, the fights scenes and action and so on.....and if you do, do personally feel like there some things that were perhaps handled better by the author in Old Testament or is everything just better in New Testament?
