I am proud to show you my first completed game, Open Hexagon, now available on Steam and itch.io for Windows and Linux.
Open Hexagon is a spiritual successor to Super Hexagon, a popular indie game that was created by Terry Cavanagh back in 2012. The basic concept is quite simple: you are a small triangle, and you need to avoid the incoming obstacles by spinning around the center of the screen. Note that Terry Cavanagh fully endorses the project!

Open Hexagon expands upon the original's concept by adding features such as a 180° swap move, curving walls, and more. However, the most important thing is that Open Hexagon features a powerful Lua scripting system, allowing people to create their own levels. I've seen incredible creations, ranging from brand new games implemented as Open Hexagon levels, to "Bad Apple!!" being embedded in the game via a matrix of moving walls.

The game is written in modern C++17, and it's completely open-source. The source code is available on GitHub. If you have any question about the game itself or any implementation detail, feel free to ask here on or the official Discord server -- we have a channel dedicated to level development via Lua scripting and a channel dedicated to the development of the C++17 engine.

Received an email from Terry Cavana this morning. He updated the beta branch of the game and now it's working perfectly on Android 11! 🎉
As I already owned the game, all I did was join the beta on the Play Store page. I think you still can't buy it, as couldn't find it when I searched for it.

I can't seem to find the game anymore. It was definitely my favorite game and a perfect fit for the plateform. Anyone knows what happened?
Around the year 2015 I think it was, I bought Super Hexagon for an Android tablet I got. I was 15-16 years old. I always had in mind to play this game whenever I could, sometimes I saw some youtubers playing it and getting frustrated af. I used to enjoy trial and error back days, and needed to play SH. Well, the first moment of gameplay was kinda shocking, as it was much much harder than I expected.
(For those who don’t know, the game has 6 levels and you must survive 60 seconds to beat the level. Levels 4, 5 and 6 are harder versions of 1, 2 and 3).
Kept playing the whole morning until I beat the first level. It was extremely satisfying, but was never frustrating. Kept playing for days, and those days became months, trying and trying to beat the next levels. Every level was harder than the one before. But when I got into level 6.... dude that is something from outer world. Kept trying until I finally beat it, and all I remember was screaming til my throat hurt. After beating the game I kept playing the game for months repeating the levels over and over.
Since then I played a few games from time to time, surprised because I didn’t really lose skill at the game, being able to complete every level in a few tries.
I’m writing this because the other day I had issues with light and I get no 4G inside my house so I could only play mobile games that required no internet, started playing Super Hexagon once more for a couple hours and remembered how fascinating this game is, and the word I always used to describe it: perfection.
