What was the American foreign policy during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878?
The president was Rutherford Hayes (R)
This war was insane and lead to the growth of the Tsardom of Russia and a weakening of the Ottoman Empire (the fiercest and most powerful empire back in the renaissance period)
I would imagine that the American people remained neutral. The Russians were, at the time, still the largest country in the world and had a robust military. The UK supported the Ottomans and so did France. So wouldn't the US also be on this boat as part of the western alliance?
But wouldn't they see the Ottomans as "enemies of Christ" or something like that? The cruel misogynists that tried to destroy Vienna and sink the Spanish fleet
It's interesting how post-WW1, everybody suddenly fears Russia but during Russia's post-Napoleonic expansion, we hardly hear anything about American foreign policy towards Russia. Was this because the tsarist regime was friendly to the US? They did sell Alaska after all.
So was there real neutrality or who did the US support?

The Battle of Athos took place in 1807 during the Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812. Of the 20 Ottoman ships involved in the battle, only 12 returned to the Dardanelles, Russia did not lose a single ship but suffered casualties of 79 killed and 189 wounded.

Why didn't any of the Great Powers that took part in the Crimean war on behalf of The Ottomans participate in the Russo-Turkish war (1877-1878)?
I have always wondered what was that, that stopped the UK or France to come to the aid of the Ottoman Empire, but said countries could influence greatly the last draft of the treaty that was signed by Russia and the Ottoman Empire (Treaty of Berlin 1878).
I have read very vague answers on the internet, but nothing that really satisfies my curiosity. I haven't seen any posts in this subreddit that answer my question either. Thanks in advance for any answer.

What of the Ottoman Empire won the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878? How would that have changed Europe going into the 20th century?
The Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 was surely a defining moment in European history. It marked the beginning of the end of the Ottoman Empire and amplified the effect of nationalism on the Balkan peninsula for a century to come. With all sides (except for Austria, I guess) feeling something they fought for are ripped away from them, such is the example with Bulgaria, eventually resulting in the Balkan Wars and the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and WW1. To me, I think losing two major wars against the Ottomans would certainly put a dent in Russia's plan for the Balkans, but I believe as time progressed it is only inevitable that Russia comes back for a round 3, and the outcome of that depends on what happens to the Ottomans, this could go for two ways. 1 - The Ottoman Empire uses this and the time bought to radically modernize, reorganizing the Ottoman military suppressing pan-slavic feelings within the Empire which could lead to a Ottoman victory for the next round, or, this could blind the Empire's leaders and the conservatives could use this as an excuse to shoot down any modernization/westernization programs with the excuse of "look! we already defeated the Russians, there's no need!" which will only further weaken the Ottoman Empire and probably get partitioned eventually by the great powers.

What if Russia took Istanbul in the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878.
I heard Russia was going to make a pan-Slavic empire with Istanbul its capital. I also heard that they would have changed the name to Tzaringrad or something along those lines.
