A list of puns related to "Remnant church"
Did anyone else watch the HBO doc "The Way Down" on Gwen & her church? Anyone have any first hand (or second) experience with the church? It's in Brentwood so not too far out of Nashville.
The evolution of the hair alone is worth the watch.
Watching this HBO documentary, and Iβm just wondering, is there anything that can be done to help the former members? An organization to donate to, orβ¦ anything? This is so horrifying, and Iβm ashamed that I had no idea this was going on.
the church & its fate was discussed every day for a couple of weeks following the crash & i was wondering if thereβs any new information. iβm not familiar enough with the church or itβs big βplayersβ to check myself
Anyone else watching? Iβm just curious because Iβm watching and having one of those reactions like JESUS CAMP where a whole side of me wonders just what about this church made it documentary worthy? I guess it just seems so horrifyingly ordinary to the way I was raised. I keep waiting for the big shocking reason this church over dozens of others.
But the real issue is that my childhood was abnormal. I know watching this with my children, they would find it documentary worthy. Iβm just so out of kilter sometimes, and moments like this remind me.
A weight loss based Christian Church.
What the ever loving fuck? This shit was real. Someone was actually smart enough (I hate to say it that way) to create a church around a weight loss program.
Just saw the HBO documentary on Gwen Shamblin. So many parallels between her and Joseph Smith. So many similarities in mentality between the Mormon Church and her church; namely, the foremost principle, that of obedience. Not to mention restoration.
Notice how Shamblinβs mission evolved from simple weight loss into something more. Reminds me of the whole βgolden platesβ thing, considering how the plates fell from the attention of the church within a few years. Or even the three witnesses, who didnβt seem to matter much once Smith got power.
I used to wonder if Smith was true. And I really believed he was. But now, after seeing this documentary I hope all those βfiery darts of the adversaryβ really freakinβ hurt.
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. β The brick foundation of one of the nationβs oldest Black churches has been unearthed at Colonial Williamsburg, a living history museum in Virginia that continues to reckon with its past storytelling about the countryβs origins and the role of Black Americans.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 82%. (I'm a bot)
> WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The brick foundation of one of the nation's oldest Black churches has been unearthed at Colonial Williamsburg, a living history museum in Virginia that continues to reckon with its past storytelling about the country's origins and the role of Black Americans.
> The First Baptist Church was formed in 1776 by free and enslaved Black people.
> First Baptist Pastor Reginald F. Davis, whose church now stands elsewhere in Williamsburg, said the uncovering of the church's first home is "a rediscovery of the humanity of a people."
> Colonial Williamsburg's historic conservation experts repaired the church's long-silenced bell several years ago.
> Colonial Williamsburg had paid for the property where the church had sat until the mid-1950s, and covered the costs of First Baptist building a new church.
> It's unclear exactly when First Baptist's first church was built.

I say this because our church supports abortion/murder in Adventist hospitals (thou shall not kill), ordain female pastors to lead & have adopted the Catholic Trinity. The church by it's own standards preach Revelation 17:12, yet by it's own standards cannot adhere to the church. The church itself needs a big clean out and a HUGE reformation to clear the false doctrines out that have stained the truth the church once stood on. Thoughts???
I was just thinking, if there is a nuclear holocaust, the Mormon church is situated perfectly to become a power player. Think of it this way, Utah is very unlikely to be bombed. This is because of our location inland and our relatively low population compared to the coast. First thing they would probably do is seize the power of the governmentβif not just rule from the pulpit. Their will be no federal oversight to prevent this, and all our representatives are Mormon all ready, so all they would really have to do is be more obvious about it. After that, they have records of all the people in the state who are part of the church, so finding who isn't will be a breeze. After taking care of them by converting or other means, there will be no one to contest them. They will then start sending out missionaries across the country to convert the extremely vulnerable populationβas they are doing right now in some countriesβwho lost so much during the explosions. If executed properly, with some favorable factors, they could easily control the remnants of the U.S.
LMK, what you think.
