Why is it Porphyric Hemophilia in MW and Oblivion, but Sanguinare Vampiris in Skyrim?

Some thoughts:

Maybe the name of the disease changed in the 200 years.

Maybe it is a different disease associated with a different kind of vampirism (like the one in ESO). The only problem with this is that the effects of Vampirism in Skyrim are quite similar to the ones in Oblivion.

Maybe there are different "schools" and classifications of diseases, and in Skyrim the disease simply has a different name.

Another thought I had was that perhaps Bethesda decided to change it as to not be offensive to people with the real Porphyric Hemophilia in real life?

Anybody got any clue or ideas?

issue with curing porphyric hemophilia/vampirism

hey guys, so i was just in the gutted mine, and after a few hours of playing i got the message that i got vampirism. i have no intent on being a vampire, nor do i feel like doing the long and arduous sidequest i hear is required if i dont cure it within the 3 days. i have an extra save to come back to, thank god, but im still having an issue with curing it. ive been using a cure disease potion, but after waiting a few days to see if it worked, i still get a message that i have vampirism. im guessing i need to cure the disease some different way, despite most sources ive read saying that a cure disease potion works fine. i checked the dates on my saves, and the save i was on directly after the gutted mine, and the one im on right now are on day 48 and day 50 respectively, and seeing as you have to do it within three days, i dont see how thats the issue either. sorry if i come off as inexperienced, just wanting to progress. to be honest, i think the inclusion of this disease was really dumb, almost feels like an artificial, NES rpg type of way to make the game more difficult, and is so far my only complaint with the absolutely dumbfounding experience that is this game. any help on how to cure it, or any information on why this aspect of the game isnt as utterly obscene as it seams would be greatly appreciated. thanks. EDIT: for whatever reason, i had to go back to a save that was immediately after the gutted mine, anything two, or even a single day after wouldn't work. it might've had something to do with the fact i did a quest where you fall asleep, so that may have fucked with the timing. thanks for the help though, finally got it figured out. for anyone who has this issue, make sure that is says porphyric hemophilia in your active affects, if it says vampirism, no matter the day, it's too late, and you'll have to retreat to an earlier save if you dont want to become a vampire.

I've contacted Porphyric Hemophilia, aka vampirism... Is my cure disease potion enough to stop it from turning me into a vampire?

I was doing the quest Order of the Virtuous Blood, and while in Memorial Cave I contracted the disease (fighting a vampire). I took a potion right away. Is that enough? I've been stuck with the glitch before of not being able to unbecoming a vampire, so I'm being very cautious.

Thanks!

I have some questions regarding vampires, could use some help.

Hello there

I'll keep my question short and sweet. If a mortal is bitten by a vampire of one strain, would it be possible for the now infected mortal to become infected by a different strain. For example if a mortal is bitten by a vamp carrying Porphyric Hemophilia could that same infected mortal somehow become infected with Noxiphilic Sanguivoria (aka Lamae Bels strain).

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm writing a story and don't want to break any lore. The point would be my character would want to become stronger so he could beat the vampire that turned him and avenge his family. There is always an option where he could be infected with Noxiphilic Sanguivoria right away but he undergoes the Rite of Scion to be able to become a Blood Scion.

is it safe to say that the vanilla strain of vampirism in Skyrim is the cyrodilic strain carried over?

obviously in Skyrim with the vanilla strain of vampirism people don't recognise you when you're well-fed, but when you are starved you are attacked, something that is a staple of the strain mentioned in the book Immortal blood, further backed up from when you acquire the Volkihar strain, that changes completely. In that case, is it safe to say that the base strain in Skyrim is the same as the one in Cyrodil? cheers :P

Dwemer disappearence explained with ESO and vampires?

TL;DR >!Dagoth Ur uses Heart of Lorkhan to create own Vampires, Heart of Lorkhan serves as pocket dimension, Kagrenac binds dwemer and teleports them to HoL to avoid annoyances, everyone's happy, also Sotha Sil made a Clockwork City!<

If you clicked this post, there's a high chance you either don't expect much (given it's another take on most common theory by some random dude on the internet :D) or don't treat ESO as canon/with a huge grain of void salts :P
Anyways, few weeks ago some connections hit me and I think that this take might be quite interesting, as it might explain how things happened instead of what ultimately happened. Tbh I don't read much theories online and I base my knowledge on full TES 3-5 + ESO gameplay and Fudgemuppet vids, so I can't be sure by saying it's gonna be 100% new and everything, but from what I know, it's OC ;p

Without further ado, lets go ;)

1) Sixth House and divine disease

So, when I was playing morrowind i talked with some sleepers, during main quest and some other randoms. By what they said about being connected to Dagoth Ur, their death being just temporary or insignificant I came to think, that Dagoth Ur has the power to bring them back to life. Given that Voryn himself cheated death, I don't think that it's that implausible. Here are some quotes I managed to find now (as it was some time ago already ;d)

"You think what you do has meaning? You think you slay me, and I am dead? It is just dream and waking, over and over, one appearance after another, nothing real. What you do here means nothing. Why do we waste our breath on you? "
"The soul of Dagoth Gares is among us. You have broken his body, but his spirit is with us in our waking dreams"

And here is one of Ur's quotes:
"You have a noble spirit. I share the power I have from the Heart to help free mortals from their ancient fears of the gods. Who knows what we might be capable of once we no longer fear death? Your goal is worthy, and I honor you for it."

If you are somewhat familiar with Morrowind then you know that Dagoth Ur appears in people's dreams and after some time he can maintain some kind of psychic connection. Here's a quote to back up this claim
"Corprus is called "the Divine Disease" and its sufferers "Children of His Flesh" by members of House Dagot**h, as they believe it to be the evolution of the Dunmer race, bringing them unity and immortality(...)"

As I understand they are bound to him trough t

I have some questions about the Rite of Scion plus some others.

Hello there

I feel pretty annoying since this is my third time posting in 3 days on this subreddit. But there is just so many questions that keep arising that I just cannot find the answers to, so maybe you could help.

Let's start with the Rite of Scion. I'm in the middle of making a story with a main character being a vampire. The idea is to have this vampire undergo the Rite of Scion to become stronger in order to defeat a vampire that killed his family. However, I'm completely lost on how I can set that up. How would one even go about finding out about the Rite of Scion, and then how could one actually get about to doing it. It's not like there's an address to go to, knock on the door and that's it.

Next question is about the strain Noxiphilic Sanguivoria. For those who don't know that's the strain that started with Lamae Bal, the first vampire (raped by Molag Bal). Now outside of that there are two more strains, Porphyric Hemophilia (the most common one) and Sanguinare Vampiris (common in Skyrim). For both of those strains the incubation period is 3 days and the victim usually suffers and "dies" in order to become "alive" again and be reborn as a vampire. However there is no information on the incubation period or how the victim feels if it got infected with Noxiphilic Sanguivoria. Would it be safe to assume it's the same?

Final question, but I feel like I know the answer to this one. If a person got bit by a vampire and now has 3 days before they turn, would killing themselves cure them? I've read that vampirism is easy to cure during the 3 day incubation period but once the victim transforms it becomes very very hard. I know killing oneself wouldn't technically be a cure, but could that stop the virus or would it just result in the person simply waking up 3 days later as a vampire?

Those are all my questions. Well I do have one more but this one is very demanding. As I'm currently in the creation process of this story I would love to have a very knowledgeable friend who could help me with some questions (so I don't have to post so often here), and someone who could maybe soon proofread my story. If there is anyone who ends up reading this that is interested send me a dm on here and we can add each other on discord...bonus points if you're an ESO player.

Need Help Becoming a Vampire

I contracted Porphyric Hemophilia from a Vampire in the Sarethi Ancestral Tomb and have rested in bed for several in-game days, but I still haven't turned into a vampire. Am I missing a step? Could it be one of my mods? Am using MCP 2.4 and some weather mods.

(Also tried injuring myself by falling and then resting after injuring myself thinking maybe I needed to actually heal while resting, but still just human :/. Have also tried reloading the game. Will try contracting Porphyric Hemophilia again and see how that goes. Is it possible that some vamps' PH doesn't turn into vampirism?)

Have searched online but most people just have trouble contracting the disease. I've contracted it, but it won't become Vampirism :/.

Porphyric Hemohilia not progressing into vampirism?

My character has had porphyric hemophilia for about seven in-game days now but has yet to turn into a vampire. I've tried resting both in the wilderness and in an inn, but nothing has changed. I even reduced my magicka resistance from 100 to 50 to see if it would help but it didn't. I don't have any mods that alter vampirism as far as I'm aware and I caught the disease in sarethi ancestral tomb near Dagon Fel if that helps. Any ideas for what the problem might be?

Edit: I seem to have solved it. Looks like the problem was related to the custom heads added by Tamriel_data.

Questions regarding vampires.

Hello there

I am currently in the process of writing a short story set in Tamriel. I won't bore you with the details, all you need to know is my story heavily features vampires. I've already read quite a lot of lore on them (in tes) however I still have a few questions I was hoping I could get answered on this subreddit.

  1. Can a vampire feed of an another vampire?
  2. Other than fire, sunlight (for some bloodlines) what would be the most efficient way of killing a vampire? Special weapons perhaps or would regular blades, bows be enough?
  3. Would it be possible for a vampire to change his bloodline? For example if a mortal gets bit by a vampire carrying a Porphyric Hemophilia strain, could that same mortal somehow change his bloodline to a more stronger one such as Noxiphilic Sanguivoria (the one in ESO)?
  4. Can a vampire feed on animals only? I read vampires feed on either blood or life energy of their victims, could the same be done using exclusively animals?
  5. If a mortal that contracted Noxiphilic Sanguivoria doesn't undergo the Ritual of Scions, do they not become a vampire or simply become a "basic" vampire?
  6. Do the mortals that contracted Noxiphilic Sanguivoria do not have an incubation period of 72 hours like other strains do?
  7. If a mortal was blind before being bitten, would becoming a vampire cure their blindness? Or would it enhance their senses to the point of being able to use echolocation, or something of that matter?

PS. When doing my research I read, and I quote " β€œBy using accursed sorcery and blood rites, Lamae Bal altered her bloodline” so perhaps it could be done?

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
