A list of puns related to "Plex (software)"
I've put some stuff on an external hard drive for my mother to be played straight off her tv. No media server, just directories and file names.
I would like to give her a better method of looking up those movies than her typing each name in to her phones web browser.
Ideally an ipad app or android phone app. I'd even take a website that lets me create a collection that then has all the movies in a convenient list or something that just straight up creates a big long .txt file or individual .txt files for each movie. Pretty important that I can bulk upload a list of movie names rather than entering them one at a time.
Any suggestions?
Can you guys recommend me a plex like software that can play HEVC file?
I have the 2019 tube (yes I know should've bought the pro) however Plex was working fine up until I updated the shield to the newest update (8.2.3).
Now all my movies/tv shows that worked fine with direct play before are all transcoding, when I go into playback setting I'm only getting 240p and 360p as resolution options, no where is the play original quality that used to be there. (HEVC file getting transcoded to h264, mkv to mkv or mkv to MPEGTS)
My settings in plex are all the same, everything is set to Maximum on the Plex app.
Anyone else having the issue or does anyone know how to go back to the previous update until this gets fixed?
As title says, I'm looking for a software to organize my media folders (movies/series) and get metadata, cover art, cool GUI. Basically I'm looking for a Plex-like software but the thing is Plex is not what I'm looking for because It's not dedicated for local media, it's like media center for your network. Since I will watch my media just on my monitor locally, I definitely don't need Plex server features. Also I really really don't like Plex's media player. It has a few customization, you can't even set subtitle font, position.
I guess you can say "Kodi is exactly what you are" but I've tried Kodi too and I can say that I really don't like it. It's GUI made me sick, was hard to control on PC and its media player was laggy.
TLDR: I need a software that will download metadata for my movies/series and give me an user interface to browse cause browsing movies/series in Windows File Explorer is exhausting. I'm not interested with any media player function cause I already love my media player(SMPlayer).
Hey all,
I'm new to the NAS scene and I am going to be running 6 x 6TB Drives. I want to run them in RAID 5 so that I have the backup and I can loose up to one drive. I am trying to decide what I will need for an OS for video editting and storage. I am also looking to try out Plex and keep my music/movies on there as well. Lastly I would love to do some sort of autoback up of my phone (Google Pixel 2 going for the 6 soon)
Let me know if you have any suggestions for this task. I was thinking TrueNAS with ZFS not really sure point of ZFS I have been looking into it.
I want to manage a large collection of videos, that aren't movies or tv shows so kodi/plex like software aren't useful. The key feature I'm looking for is to know what's the video content without opening it, like youtube thumbnails, with a couple of screenshots of the video.
I'm looking for streaming device for audio and video, is ShieldTV capable of streaming 24/192 audio to HDMI?
I thought it might be possible because unified remote works like that and openemu can take inputs from bluetooth controllers.
Alright guys, I got myself into a pickle here. I have thousands of episode of wrestling episodes and the naming scheme for them is DATE - SHOW, but for Plex the naming scheme would need to be SHOW - DATE. Is there a way to flip these? I've tried using ReNamer, but if it's possible, I haven't been able to figure it out. Any help would be amazing.
So, I downloaded some Simpsons seasons, but the filenames are like Episode 1 - Homer blablabla.mkv.
It doesn't work well on Plex. Is there any software that could work to rename it?
Title says it all. This thing has made life SO GOOD. Thanks to everyone at plex. Keep up the good work.
I realized all my movies look grayish than in other programs, i used to use PowerDVD and the image looks perfect, switched to Plex and it doesnt look right. Then i tried downloading the "Plex Media Player" program and editing the mpv.confg file with the command "video-output-levels=full" and it works! But i want it to work on the normal "Plex" program because its the one i want to use since it has a better interface and i just like it more. Is there a way to do it? Because all my movies look awful and i dont want to go back to PowerDVD.
Btw, does the tone mapping function only work with Plex Pass? because i dont see the option to enable it in settings.
edit: Nevermind, i got it to work! I just put the mpv.confg in the wrong folder, i put it in /Plex Media Server instead of /Plex. I hope if anyone has the same problem this could help.
I'm looking for, preferably, a Plex-like solution for software. Like a browser-based app store or repository that makes it quick and easy to find/download software from your own local archive. I have various operating systems, applications, drivers, licenses, assets, and so on.
Is anyone aware of anything like this?
I was just gifted an old HP server (ML150G6) and wanted to get it set up mainly as a NAS/Plex server.
what would be the best rout to go to do this? Ubuntu server, unRAID, Windows..? I'm just looking for configurations that most people have success with, so I can dig into them a little more.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
I am running Plex on Ubuntu server headless. I watch a lot of subbed anime that requires it to be software transcoded to retain the subs. Most of my stuff transcodes fine but one in particular is giving me issues. When transcoding the file it constantly buffers and the transcoder isn't utilizing all of the cpu percentage. I tried playing around with the transcoding quality and it doesn't change. If I put it on "make my CPU hurt" it uses 100% but buffers more. I feel like it should transcode fine if I set it to "prefer faster transcoding" but it doesn't use all of the cpu. I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Server hosts especially, but even users, should really look at the value of that. This is a software that has freed me from the constraints of streaming services and effectively removed me as a pawn in the streaming wars - a fight that is solely based on intellectual property. In that fight Plex has given is the ability to curate our own streaming service and I am walking, talking proof that through some research and good hardware anyone can do it.
If my users who I am kind enough to share my server with have to pony up for a Plex Pass to gain additional benefits that they want, so be it. Plex needs to make money to ensure its longevity and providing them a few bucks for a LIFETIME of that is worth every penny. If my users can't see the value, maybe they should go back to Netflix or make their own server.
My users and I save a collective $800 per year using Plex. That pays off my server (hardware) and my Plex Pass in 17 months. Add Lifetime Plex Pass for each of them, and that changes to 36 months. That calculation ONLY includes Netflix. I hardly know anyone who subscribes to a single streaming service anymore.
Right now I'm watching holiday pictures with my family and it turned out that if you start a slideshow from the timeline view, the slideshow is in reverse order. So from newest to oldest. How did someone think that that would be a good idea? And even if it would be, why is there no way to reverse the order? Managing photos is more or less the main reason why I use Plex and this issue which would take like five minutes of coding to resolve makes it nearly useless
I currently have a Plex server running at home Using a regular Windows 10 install. I'm changing out some hardware and figured now would be a good time to change software/OS. This is the hardware I'm using:
Pentium G4400
8GB DDR4
1 3TB WD Black
2 2TB WD Black
1 1TB WD Black
Its all consumer hardware, but it has worked for me for about 2 years now and I've had no problems. I was looking at different free NAS software and I want to know what would be best for the things I want to do, including:
Plex Server
NAS
Torrent through VPN
Remotely add torrents on different network
Remotely manage server
I've heard of FreeNAS and OMV, but I was wondering if those, or any other software, could do everything I need it to do.
So i have a plex server with around 40TB of movies and tv shows, i also have 3x12TB wd element drives that i use to manually backup the server with (in case on of the server drives dies).
I was wondering if there are any free windows 10 apps that syncs the file that i have with the external drive? So that when i plug in the external drive, the app will see what files i have added on the plex server and ONLY transfer those files to the external wd drive.
Note that im not looking for any command task, but an app that works uses windows UI :)
Couple questions:
What plugin-ins do folks recommend adding to a decently developed Plex server. Especially with the new features on the way.
What other programs are people running on their (dedicated) servers besides Plex? Seems a bit of a waste to have just movies and TV shows when I have a decent amount of space and processing power.
What are people using for monitoring server stats remotely?
How are people connecting to their headless servers? I accidentally installed the wrong version of Windows so I had to use a 3rd party remote access software but it keeps changing passwords and log ins on me and makes things a bit impractical.
Sorry for the lobby post have a nice long weekend ahead of me and wanted to do some tweaks π
I am wondering if there is a software or os that exists that is somewhat similar to plex, but supports everything from text documents to iso files (essentially a google drive type interface for accessing home hosted files). Just wanted to check if something like this exists before I go through the effort of making something that would achieve this goal. Thanks in advance
Hey everyone. I've been using Plex for about a decade now. 2 years back, I convinced our family to cut-the-cord and switch to a Plex Pass setup for live TV and DVR. I got a ton of great advice from this sub on what hardware to buy. This was great because, while I was a longtime Plex user, it was really a "have PMS running on a laptop so that I can cast media around the house without having to carry a flash drive". Like many of you on this sub, I enjoy tweaking settings, monitoring with Tautulli, and testing hardware. As something extra, I've enjoyed doing a cost-benefit analysis over the years and watching our savings grow.
I've detailed our hardware purchased, cost savings, a review of experience over the 2 year period at my website. It's my first time writing something like this, so I'm open for feedback.

... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm running the Plex server software on Linux Mint 20. My Plex server version is 1.19.4.2935. My Plex server PC has 2 network adapters, ethernet and wifi. Is it possible to configure the Plex server software to a specific network adapter? I'd like to ensure it's using the ethernet adapter (and in the future, I might want to ensure it's using the wifi adapter).
Today I was looking for a solution to stop the haggle of hooking and removing of pendrives to my newly bought Android TV (OnePlus Q1Pro), the IO ports are very hard to reach on this TV (tried USB extension cable, for some reason its not working). Attaching the thumb drive was a real pain. I was just looking for a solution which let me copy files over to the TV and store it in the thumb drive attached to it, most of the app available were either wasn't doing fast or the UI was abysmal. Somehow I landed on the Plex application in play store, thought of giving it a try. Plex is a media server(personal streaming server kind of a thing), which organizes movies and TV shows very neatly. Man I am completely blown away by its features and UI, many paid streaming platform does not offer that many features! Gets you the Synopsis, IMDb and rotten tomatoes rating, the resolution and audio information of your file and what not. Installed the media server on my laptop and setting it up was very straightforward and easy. Pointed Movies, TV Shows, Music and Pictures to the respective folders. Followed the on screen instruction on TV to link my account and I was good to go within 5 minutes. All the features are basically free, I am impressed since most of the content I like are not on any paid streaming services. Here is the link for those interested https://plex.tv

Hello! I want to buy Raspberry PI 3 for install Kodi and setup Plex addon. But I'm newbie in it (in Raspberry). If I understood right I can install Kodi by two ways: by install LibreElec or in Raspberry Pi OS install Kodi by
sudo apt-get install kodi
So which way is the best and why?
Besides, I have more questions:
I have a plex server that shares duties with Usenet services (Sonarr, NZBget, etc) and I need these services to make requests across a software VPN.
I've always had trouble getting Plex remote users to connect and watch content because of the VPN. Which, when enabled, users are unable to connect through their plex clients. Does anyone else have this same/similar issue and how did you resolve it. Split network, etc.
thanks in advance.
EDIT - setup is a single server with plex / other services connected through a GB switch to a Router to the cable modem. VPN is OpenVPN software on the server.
My Plex server is constantly crashing, I'm running the beta version, so I know what I'm in for, that isn't the question I have.
What I'm looking for is some way to monitor if the Plex service is running and if it isn't restart it.
Does something like that exist?
I'm running Windows. I don't want to run Tautalli and I'd like it if the software/script to actually restart Plex automatically.
