A list of puns related to "Pacific Highway (Australia)"
Saw a really interesting thing yesterday in St Leonards on the Pacific Highway.
I was riding northbound, had just come through Herbert St and caught the red light at Reserve Rd where you would turn to go up to Royal North Shore hospital.
Initially there would have been around 6 cars stopped at the lights - I had two in front of me in the left lane. But then the lights didn't change again for ages. Traffic continued to build up and by the time they changed traffic was backed up past Christie St, around the corner back towards Crows Nest further than I could see.
After sitting there for a few minutes an Ambulance came down the highway southbound with a Police motorcycle escort - one in front and one behind - and turned up to the hospital. As it turned off a CareFlight helicopter came in overhead and landed at the hospital - possibly just a coincidence.
Not long after the ambulance came through the intersection the light changed back to green. It is a well studied phenomenon that people overestimate how long they spent in a queue so I pulled my Strava data for the ride - the lights were red for around 4:30. I would have estimated closer to 6-7 minutes - so phycologists are right.
I would normally expect this intersection to cycle through the various turns in about 60-90 seconds max. Has anyone seen this before? Clearly something was special about the ambulance given it had a police escort - maybe transplant organs or something? But I don't think I have ever seen traffic lights being manually held except for when royalty or high end political leaders have come to Sydney. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this, or have inside info about how this gets coordinated at the Transport Management Centre?
I seem to remember an old Chinese restaurant on Pacific Highway and Grape Street, somewhere in that area. It was a fairly large building with a good sized parking lot. I remember going with my wife there at least once, maybe a decade ago almost. Inside there was like a little bridge/river theme going on. And I do remember there was either a car wash or gas station close by or across the street.
It's definitely not there anymore and I think I know what's there now, but I'm really not sure.
I cannot remember the name of the place, nor do I have photos of it, but my wife and I were reminiscing about places and such and this particular place came up.
I'm wondering, does anyone by any chance remember the name of the place and maybe even have photos of the restaurant or even the inside of it? Just looking to take a trip down memory lane, that's all.
