A list of puns related to "Nvidia Shield TV"
Iβve been a Plex user for a long time. I run my own local windows 10 based server which is used 90% locally. Remote users are pretty much limited to a few family members who connect from time to time or myself when Iβm traveling. I have also been a Plex Pass user for many years as well.
I recently bought a Nvidia Shield Pro which is great except for the Plex app. The Plex player is having a lot of issues.
The first issue is that when I am playing a video (tv or movie) it will randomly skip ahead a few seconds. I canβt find any pattern to it but itβs often enough to ruin plenty of movies and shows. It is definitely not us sitting the remote or something dumb like that. This happens regardless of what I am watching and it ONLY happens on shield. I can watch the same thing on the same network on a different device. Even other androidOS based devices are fine (Amazon fire stick/cube).
The second issue is that the skip intro button is completely missing. Again, it will appear for a show on other devices just not on the nvidia shield.
For a product that markets with Plex, I am incredibly disappointed. Does anyone have any ideas on getting to the bottom of these issues?
Edit/update: so this is somewhat embarrassing. I left out that this has been going on for months, since mid last year. When this initially happened I tried all the basics turning it on and off again, uninstall/reinstall, factory reset then reinstall and nothing helped. Today I decided to just try uninstalling and re installing the plex client again, to be sureβ¦ Although Iβve repeatedly updated the app, upon reinstall I seem to have a completely different version of the plex app. Anyway, after fixing all the settings and a few reboots it got this version to run and I am at least seeing the skip intro button as expected. I have to watch a bunch of tv now (oh no!) to see if the skip issue has been fixed too.
Iβll update here if it fixed or still broken ASAP.
Send update: ok it seems that everything is magically fixed. As many have noted this version has a bunch of other bugs. So far the most notable is the loading bug, though annoying itβs a lot better than the random skips. Sooo waiting 6 months then force updating seems to have done the trick. Hopefully itβs not another 6 months to fix these new issues. Thank you everyone for the help!
The files are not transcoding and are direct playing for Video and Audio.
I have installed OpenSpeedtest and confirmed up and download speeds between the Shield and the Server to be around 970Mbps.
What can I try to fix this annoying issue?
I read so many posts or seen a bunch of videos comparing them with plex, and the shield pro looks faster obviously. But then I read tons of people on Reddit saying that it really makes no difference as far as browsing the UI or playback speed.
Any thoughts? My wife somehow put our Google TV Chromecast remote and a glass of water and now it's going nuts. I figured I'm going to have to buy a new one, and wondering if the extra $150 will give me the performance boost for UI. The Chromecast is so slow sometimes when browsing plex or even the Android TV home screen. I was hoping to hold out for a newer shield, but doesn't look like that's coming anytime soon.
Please let me know why you should (or are) use(ing) one over the other :-)
Does it work well on both? I will of course use a ethernet cable for the best connection.
TL;DR, plex client on new nv shield tv pro refuses to play some MKV format movies, MP4 movies seems fine. It would stuck in buffering, and eventually the plex media server will crash. No such issue detected on other deviced. Solution is posted at the end of the post.
My setup:
Local Plex server: E3-1245V5, 16G ram, no discrete GPU, running headless windows 10 pro, and connected to gigabit ethernet. According to intel, this cpu support quicksync
Have plex lifetime pass if that matters
NV shield tv pro was bought today, brand new, from BestBuy, hooked up to my Hisense 120L5F using a certified HDMI 2.1 cable, and it is also connected via gigabit ethernet.
Audio setup: Bluetooth headphones, ie80s bt, weston w40 gen2 bt, and bose qc35 gen2.
Edit: I don't have a receiver nor sound bars, headphones are connected via bluetooth directly to the NV shield.
All software and firmwares are up to date
Connections are speed tested, no issue there.
Symptoms:
It would not play some of the MKV files, no matter the bitrate, however, some 4k remux (up to 76Mbps bitrate in MKV format) can direct play just fine.
Plex client on NV shield will stuck at the initial movie loading screen, and after about 15-30 seconds the plex media server will crash.
Tons of error codes in the console, most notably: [Transcode] [FFMPEG] - Cannot load nvcuda.dll and [Transcode] [FFMPEG] - Could not dynamically load CUDA, I'm not sure why it need to transcode.
What I've done so far:
Solution:
**Turns out, the audio codec was screwing with me the whole time, all I did is change anything that uses TrueHD audio stream to any other available audio stream, and that fixed the issue. Also I believe MKV format has nothing to do with all this, it's just so happens that none of my MP4 files uses TrueHD
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey I was wondering if someone have the same issue, and if there is a know solution, after 9.0 update my shield(2017) no longer turn off when I change inputs, this is annoying because after 30 minutes it turn off and send the signal to the TV to turn off and I don't want necessarily to turn off the CEC. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I'm looking for a replacement for my Fire TV cube, how does this compare?
Does it have a fan - is it totally silent?
Can you attach an external HDD and make it accessible to other devices on the same network?
Thanks! :)
Hey,
I started getting random popping noises when I connect my Bluetooth headphones and watch videos on Plex, Netflix etc.. Everything 5-10 seconds it will happen; sometimes it's noticeable and others it's really soft.
I know it's not my headphones because I tried 3 different pairs.
This happened pretty soon after Version 9.0 came out (I think).
Any ideas? Thankfully, it's still under warranty.
Thanks!
I'm looking into buying a new PC with 11th Gen Intel i7 to use as a 24/7 server. The cheap PCs I have are just too slow and out of date, and I don't want my main computers to run 24/7.
I'm considering this PC or similar: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/xps-desktop/spd/xps-8940-desktop/xd8940msrfbres
Both of my Shields already lag at times. Both of them already have lot of apps installed. I also read that PleX can only be installed on system storage (which is only 16GB), not adopted storage. Therefore I'm concerned that making any of my Shields into a PleX Server will make the Shields lag even more and eat up any remaining space.
Which is best as a PleX Server for my situation?
A. NVIDIA Shield TV Pro
B. Modern Windows PC with Intel i7 11th Gen
Bonus question:
Q. As a PleX Server, can a modern Intel i7 PC without a dedicated GPU card (has integrated graphics only) successfully host both 4K HDR / 4K remux / Dolby Vision content and lossless audio for its clients (i.e. my Shields, other PCs and Macs, mobile devices) with no problem?
Hello all, I currently have LG SN7Y and LG SPK8 connected to my NVIDIA SHIELD 2019 PRO TV and I am looking for some best possible settings to get the most of it.
On its own right now it plays incredible but want to get best possible results. What is βStereo Upmixβ in the advanced sound settings and what does it do?
Also, should I have my SHIELD connected to the soundbar and then to the HDMI ARC in the TV or I can have connected SHIELD to the TV HDMI port and soundbar to the HDMI ARC?
Hello,
Hopefully this is easy to answer for some of you. I'm basically wondering about the performance of Kodi, Real-Debrid and Seren on Apple TV 4K (2021) compared to Nvidia Shield (2017)?
Is there a noticeable performance difference when it comes to loading lists, widgets or searching for sources?
Thanks!
Edit: For clarification I am interested in performance differences (if any) of non-tube Shield compared to Apple TV 4K (2021).
Hi all, I'm looking to purchase an Nvidia Shield TV Pro and was wondering if the product is for me. I'm wanting to stream my games from my gaming PC to my TV in my bedroom.
Gaming PC is hardwired on 1gig fiber optic internet. I would also hardwire the Nvidia shield.
Specs are an RTX 3070, i5 9600k 3.5ghz, 16gb DDR4 memory, 1 tb nvme ssd.
The actual distance from my PC and where the TV is , is about 5ft. I know running a long hdmi is also an option as it's a really short distance to cover but I'd really like this to work.
I've tried streaming already through Google chromecast/android tv but I find the input lag was a little much. I'm hoping the better hardware and the fact of it being hardwired will help with this input lag.
Thanks!
I have a LG B9 OLED that I want to stream websites (e.g. flixtor, youtube, etc.) and downloaded movies to from my MacBook air M1.
The TV has built-in airplay but it is too laggy for streaming any kind of video. What would be the best option here? Considering that some sources may be 1080p and might be needed to upscale to 4k (the LG got that too but I guess shield upscaling is a bit better?)
Any advice and ideas are greatly appreciated!
Hi all,
Would like to ask some buying advice from you. We own a 1080p non-HDR TV from 2017. We might replace it with a newer 4K model at some point but that's not planned anytime soon, not within let's say 4-5 years. But the smart-TV portion has become real slow and keeps crashing and hanging. We're fed up with that so want to buy a separate streaming box.
Our wishes:
- Fast UI navigation and short load times, no crashes. It should ideally stay that way for a relatively long time, let's say 5 years
- Ethernet port
- USB port for connecting a hard disk with a library of movies & series, which removes the need to use Plex from our PC
- For the rest we use it for streaming Netflix, Youtube and some Dutch streaming apps (Videoland, NPO). We will not use it for gaming.
We are doubting between Nokia Streaming Box 8000 (β¬80) and Nvidia Shield Pro (β¬200). It's a huge price difference, basically the Nokia can do everything we want today and has generally good reviews. The only reason we still doubt about the Shield is firmware support lifetime. The Nokia will be supported 'at least until 2023', after that it's unclear, it might get updates or not. I'm also not sure how quickly it would become slow or buggy after support stops.
The Shield has exceptionally long software support so we're definitely safe there. But on the other hand we are not demanding users and we will be (partially) paying for features we don't use (4K, HDR, gaming)...
What would you recommend?
Kind regards
Hey! So im looking to buy my first tvbox, and im deciding between this two.
I was going to get the Google TV, as I thought the Nvidia shield was way too much for me, but now im in doubt. Tbh I 99% want It for streaming, and not that interested on the gaming aspect of It, as im going to use the Tv box on the PC monitor I have in my room (1080p HDR), as I prefer to have this kind of device, to avoid turning on the PC everytime I want to watch a movie.
For gaming, I already have in my room a pretty decent PC, and also my jailbroken PS4/PS3's where I can emulate most games.
Is there anything im missing that can turn the tables in favor of the Shield TV? Maybe the AI upscaling for example, that would make the extra β¬ worth it?
Selling my much-loved Nvidia Shield TV (2017). Only reason for selling is that I'm simplifying my media setup and just throwing an Apple TV behind there, because otherwise this lil fella can handle anything you throw at it.
The shield and remote work great with just standard superficial wear from use, and brand new batteries are in the remote. Comes with power cable and in original packaging, and it's definitely hoping to be a part of someone's awesome Plex setup ;)
Price includes shipping + fees -- $120 SOLD
Hi, guys I've been looking for solution how to speed up downloading torrents on my shield, I'm using Biglybt, the problem is when I'm downloading torrents on my laptop over wi-fi everything is going on full but if I try it on shield via ethernet the download is going maybe up to 1Mb/s... What could be the reason?
Hoping someone here can help out.
Just picked up a new TV - Sony X90J. First Android/ Google tv. We have a Nvidia shield connected to our other screen in a different room.
My problem is that it appears as if the Sony TV has automatically linked to the shield somehow. For example if you use voice commands and ask it to open youtube "ok google, open youtube" it then repeats "opening youtube on shield" and you guessed it opens the app on the shield / other device.
Driving both my son and daughter nuts, which in turn drives me nuts.
Any ideas what might be happening here, or what I might be able to do to unlink the devices?
Hi all,
Currently running a plex media server on a DS920+
Just wanting to know what the best client is to watch from. I currently have a Xbox Series X and the plex app from the LG webos app store.
I like that the LG app is on the home screen as you turn the TV on its also easy for other family members.
What performance gains am I to yield from streaming through the xbox or potentially purchasing a apple tv or nvidia shield?
Thanks
According to: https://support.plex.tv/articles/115002178853-using-hardware-accelerated-streaming/
Nvidia Shield (I assume includes Nvidia Shield TV Pro) should not require a Plex Pass subscription (which I don't have) to use Hardware-Accelerated Streaming and it's enabled by default (which it was).
But when I have "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding" enabled in Transcoder settings, and play a video that requires transcoding I get no image (black screen) and sound only, when I Optimise a video it also renders a video with audio only but still says it used h.264 codec at the expected resolution just with a black picture.
At no point do I receive any error messages and I have not noticed any other video playback issues on this Shield.
When I disable "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding" transcoding to different devices works, and so does optimise but I notice converting is substantially slower from +6x to averaging 1.5x.
"Use hardware acceleration when available" is enabled in both cases.
Any idea what could be causing this? Would getting a Plex Pass subscription solve this?
For those who have tried both, is 4k@60 much better than 1440p but 120 fps? IΒ΄m thinking of getting a Shield TV, but 1440p to 4k difference in resolution might not be worth it for the downgrade in max fps (moving from 60 to 120 fps was such a massive improvement for me).
What do yo think?
IΒ΄m playing on a 55" OLED 4k 120Hz TV from around 1.8 meters away and connected via ethernet on a gigabit internet, if that changes anything.
Good day.
I recently purchased the OLED65C1PUB TV. I am considering connecting it directly to my home wifi network and using my shield via other HDMI port to watch apps not available on the TV. In the past (because of older tv limitations) i ran everything through the nvidia. Do you guys think it would be better to run my TV directly off of my network? I have been told that would remove a layer of processing. Any remarks would be helpful. Thanks.
The YouTubeTV appears to have been busted/broken In the past week. It will work fine but then randomly when trying to launch will never load and do a continuous spinning circle. There are posts about this of the Nvidia forums as well. Seems like neither YouTube or Nvidia want to help with the issue.
What would be best used for streaming movies and shows with the best possible quality? I know they both have their pros and cons, since supposedly Apple TV 4K doesnβt support HDR for moviebox apparently
TV LG EG9600 Three HDMI inputs, hi speed 4K cables.
Beam Gen 2 brand new
Nvidia Shield
So, Iβm a little bit confused regarding my setup. I connect Beam to ARC HDMI with trustworthy cable. Nvidia Shield gets connected to either HDMI with identical cable. Last input receives similar cable from set top box. I know the Beam needs the ARC HDMI input, and that works fine. My issue is the Nvidia Shield, it appears to only be functioning when using the ARC HDMI. It really isnβt dependent on an ARC HDMI tv input to function though. Could someone walk me through this setup? Iβm normally very adept at these things and Iβm thinking that itβs something so simple but itβs eluding me. Iβm wondering if an HDMI switcher might be the solution..π€·πΌββοΈ
After testing the GeForce Now RTX 3080 tier with the Nivida Shield TV. It's safe to say we can call the Nvidia shield tv a Next gen console. Max graphical settings, 4k 60 fps, Ray tracing and DLSS.
https://youtu.be/GPLrz0UG4kM
So ever since i updated to the infamous experience 9 my shield keeps crashing at random times. Most the times the screen freezes and i get all sorts of graphic glitches on the screen. I have to pull the power and wait the obligatory xx seconds/minutes to plug in again to get it to restart.
Anyone have similar issues?
It's plugged directly into samsung tv via HDMI (with UHD color/10 bit thingy activated on tv)
So through my own trial and error I'm wondering if I correctly figured out what to do. I have a Denon AVR- S540BT . Most AVR's don't 'decode' FLac audio in the sense that it doesn't passthrough so you have to manually set Kodi to 5.1 and it should be transported as PCM and the receiver will display 'Multi Ch In' if it's more than stereo. Also if that's the case then passthrough would need to be enabled (unsure about that). But anyways is that the correct way to get it to play 5.1 Flac ?
Then I read there's literally no way to tell on most receivers if you're getting bit-accurate Flac/PCM. Then there's the whole 'resampling' setting on Kodi with no option to disable it and no one's really given a proper explanation of when the settings tamper with the audio.
I actually neglected to mention this is for Anime/movie MKV's with 5.1 Flac tracks.
Im trying to get find a way to get my newly installed Eufy 1080p doorbell to show a live feed to our our LG TV (OLED55CX5LB).
I have followed the instructions via Eufy app.
Gone into Google Home app and added Eufy Security services to Home Control, and added my Doorbell and Chime into the Google Home app, and I have moved the devices into our Home location with all our other devices in our home.
I thought I would be able to say 'OK Google, show doorbell on TV' or similar to show a live feed of the doorbell.
I also have a Chromecast Ultra and an Nvidia SHield connected to this TV, so also tried saying phrases like:
'OK Google, show doorbell on Shield'
'OK Google, show doorbell on Chromecast'
The response from ouroriginal Google Hub Speaker (its old but still works fine) is that it doesnt understand the command or for similar phrases ive tried it asks to specifiy which device to stream the doorbell to, but evn if I do specify, it then says it doesnt understand.
I managed to get this working very easily with a Goolge Home Hub Max at the inlaws home using the same method as above, but I cant seem to get the feed to show on our TV which is very frustrating.
Am I missing something obvious? i.e am i not using the correct phrase? (The TV, Sheild and Chromecast are in the Lounge room, and ive even specified that in the voice command too, but with no success).
I see a lot of debate on this topic and from what I read, Apple TV has as much praise as the Shield. This makes a hot debate but I've been trying out the ATV 4K for a few weeks and I got to say, I don't see why there's praise.
For reference my library is mostly MKVs HVEC x265 (but some x264) 1080P-4K live action shows/movies and 1080p anime I think x264. I watch all my media with subtitles on.
My shield is a 2017 version updated OS using PlexKodiConnect in Kodi as a client with direct paths
Been testing an Apple TV 4K updated OS using latest Plex official app.
My media is stored in a NAS and I watch at home.
With the Shield, I can turn it on open Kodi and fire up something to watch very quickly no hiccups and can be assured I am direct playing my media always. I have never seen media be transcoded in Kodi in my 2 years with my Shield. I rarely use the Plex client, but sometimes I do because its easier to obtain missing subtitles in the Plex app than Kodi. Used to have issues with direct playing in the Plex app but learned it was because of an option in the settings I had to change. Once I did the transcoding stopped but I haven't done extensive testing. But the jist of it is that the Shield is dependable and top notch smooth experience
With the Apple TV 4K i cant say the same. The video is very choppy skipping many frames. I learned that's due to the "new player" being unable to play HVEC files correctly but when I change to the "old player" it starts transcoding, and basic navigation & controls leaves a lot to be desired. i.e. just fast forwarding becomes tedious with the player needing to load the video with every button press. And now lately, I have been experiencing another problem where the video just goes black for a few seconds at a time randomly. I still hear the audio but its just a black screen. Its not buffering. More like, video feed is interrupted. I haven't seen reports of this anywhere. Also, I changed the option recommended by people to not use HDR on the homescreen and match content frame rate but that just causes the system to recalibrate with every screen change. It becomes annoying after a while. Much rather a darker homescreen than having to deal with that every button press.
Anyway I say all of this to shoutout the Shield for being dependable af and to give my two cents on the Apple TV
Now regarding the issues with the Apple TV, does anyone have a solution? Was testing this to give to my girlfriend, but if the ATV cant
