If you know how to manipulate the game and know all the tricks on which properties to buy, how to trade properly and when to trade, it becomes one of the best board games to play. Trading your entire green set because they're worthless to get two single properties so others can't gain monopolies, genius. Neve upgrading to hotels so nobody else can buy houses making their monopolies useless, most fun move, especially when everyone realises they either have to upgrade straight to hotels or go without houses.
I always start behind and usually trade most of my assets for one full monopoly being the only thing I own, just to build as many houses as possible on them so I can see return on it much quicker. Yeah Monopoly teaches the evils of Capitalism, but when you know how to turn the game on its head, Capitalism becomes pretty sweet.
Monopoly is fucking fun.

Never has there been an instance where Monopoly was fun and we were all Laughing in the end. Every time the banker is accused of pulling some dumb shit, Your dad keeps landing on your property and now he’s got a problem with you, Your sisters got 10k in the bank talking hella shit and By the end you and your mom aren’t on speaking terms and your sister locked herself in her room crying. This game ruins families it doesn’t bring them together.

Discussing board game with friends trying to remember this board game I played as kid in early 2000s that was like monopoly except it had something to do with planes I think. The board was blue and quite small. I know it's a long shot just wondering if anyone knows of it.
Edit: I was using ‘Monopoly’ from memories of my first experience handling money at a young age. I don’t want or expect this new idea to further glorify the concept of money. Quite the opposite in fact.

I think most of us either grew up playing the board game ‘Monopoly’ or have at least experienced it a time or 2.
For me I remember it being the first time I was actually in charge of “money” and the vague rules of managing money (at least for the sake of the game)
I’d love to see if there are any (board) game pro’s in this group that would be interested in creating a GME level version of Monopoly. Complete with the bad actors, shorting, derivatives, etc etc.
If we’re going to change this fked up system after MOASS, I think it’s totally on brand for this sub to do something entertaining and educational for the future apes to learn.
I wish I knew what short selling was when I was 8. Let’s teach !em thru a kick ass game?!

Played with my girlfriend and her siblings. Game is out of control. In the rules, they basically tell you it’s highly unlikely to finish the game.
Ie everything has been bought up if you were late to the game. Ie if you fucked up uni you kinda fucked up your life!
Ie zero romantic/social prospects or even economic prospects
All business pursuits are DROWNING SATURATED especially due to the internet

Heck i am FINE accepting i will have zero fulfilling social/romantic relationships at 24 due to bad choices i made in uni. but now its like i cant even build/create or discover anything anymore.

Well, do NOT buy this game. In this game, for those who don't know, female players voluntarily earn more money than men. But chill down, it is not my fault if women are paid less than men, nor it is the fault of your friends. This game is just a bitter and passive-aggressive way to promote the message and to make your male friends feel guilty. But if it was only that.
Basically, the creators of this game and the CEO of hasbro... ARE MOSTLY MEN. We don't even know who designed this game tho, but what is certain is that the money mainly goes to MEN. Men who monetized the cause of feminism. This is why it is a DUMB game.
AND FINALLY, Lizzie magie. Do you know about her? She basically made a game that very much inspired the monopoly, however, she was never credited anywhere. It is not very feminist.
How come a game can completely disappear from history and nobody able to trace it out. it came in 2003~2004 in a CompaQ laptop along with Dora game, it had graphics same as Monopoly plus(2014) except the game was in glassy blue colour and had shining silvers, no buildings, no cars, no people, etc..., the coins/toys had life in it. what made me impress was when you step in "Go to Jail", from "jail" a police car comes to "go to jail" and you will be thrown into the car and taken to "jail", even the 2014 doesn't have that. the game will almost look like chess game that came with windows 7. unfortunately the game got disappeared once the os is changed(they took my laptop for something i don't remember exactly for what) 😭😭😭😭😭. please someone confirm that at least it was existed in the history, (or) is it completely a dream?
It was a four player family game of Monopoly. My brother, our parents and I were playing, and I wasn't doing well. I wasn't bankrupt or heavily mortgaged yet, but I could tell that if something drastic didn't change in the next 3 turns or so, I was toast. I didn't have any monopolies, but I did have a couple 2 out of 3 properties (New York and St. James being the standouts) and a couple scattered here or there. My brother was the clear favorite at this point, with my Dad in clear second. My Mom was losing right along with me.
It was my turn, and I was trying to arrange a favorable trade.
I'm negotiating with my Dad. I have a property that'll give him another monopoly, he has a card that'll give me a monopoly. We both have enough money and side properties to even things up afterward. With a good trade here, we'd both have a higher chance of winning, significantly cutting into on my brother's lead. Seems like it should be a slam dunk, right?
But no, my Dad is pushing for the most ridiculous trades possible, and outright refusing to trade away those properties that are most valuable to me. If I don't get a monopoly out of this, I might as well not even bother with a trade.
I'm getting frustrated as the negotiating stalls. But I get an idea. A terrible, terrible idea.
I say to my Dad: "Dad, I'm clearly in the weaker position, here. But right now, that just means I have less to lose. So here's the deal. If I don't get a trade from you that gives me a monopoly, I'm going to sell all of my properties to [brother's name] for $1."
Dad didn't like that at all, and there was no trade. He also probably didn't expect me to carry through, but immediately after, I sold all my deeds to my brother for a dollar, and my Dad lost any chance whatsoever of winning the game.
Dad isn't speaking to me right now.
Was that a supremely dickish move to play? Yup. I'm feeling a little vindicated, though, for not letting myself be pushed around when I was the little guy.
But will anyone ever want to play Monopoly with me again? I kinda doubt it.
TL;DR was losing at family Monopoly, went MAD and made Dad mad, family board games won't ever be the same.
