Where is Angus Taylor Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction and Peter Dutton Minister For Home Affairs ?
Given that the fires (so far) have emitted 250m tonnes of CO2, almost half of country's annual emissions
Just wondering why the Minister for Emissions Reduction seems to have nothing to say on the issue ?
I am particularly interested in the following points:
- How he is going to offset the massive emissions blow out from this fire season
- How he is going to handle the increase in emission on an on-going basis given that the fire season is expected to last longer, be bigger and more intense as climate change progresses.
- What he is he going to do about the Paris Accord (I am guessing we will no longer be meeting our targets in a canter)
- If he is going to make a public statement linking the fires to climate change and the burning of fossil fuel given that it sits squarely in his portfolio
Also Peter Dutton Minister for Home Affairs seems suspiciously absent.
This seems strange given his portfolio covers "emergency management"
I am very interested in
- What contribution his ministry is making to the fire fighting and recovery effort
- What plans he has to deal with similar national disasters going forward
It almost seems like Scott Morrison has instructed ministers to shut up and stay out of the media, just like during the election ? Remember the miracle "one man, ScoMoShow" ?
I guess that having several people talking about it opens up the possibility of conflicting statements which can be embarrassing, can easily happen when facts are not on your side.
Just wondering is anyone else has an opinion on this ?
