A list of puns related to "Michael McGlynn"
Travis McMichael [man who shot a black jogger Ahmaud Arbery], of all counts, his son Gregory of 7 out of 8 counts including felony murder; William Bryan 6 out of 8, including Felony murder.
There were initially no arrests made of any of the three who now stand convicted of murder; they were not charged until months later. One of the two DAs who initially handled the case and did not bring charges is now herself facing felony charges.
The former Georgia prosecutor [Jackie Johnson], was indicted recently on misconduct charges alleging she used her position to shield the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery from being charged with crimes immediately after the shootings. Attorney is now charged with a felony count of violating her oath of office and hindering a law enforcement officer, a misdemeanor.
Another prosecutor involved initially [Barnhill], later recused himself as well, after Arbery's family learned his son worked for Johnson as an assistant prosecutor. But before he stepped aside, Barnhill wrote a letter to a Glynn County police captain saying the McMichaels "were following, in 'hot pursuit,' a burglary suspect, with solid first hand probable cause, in their neighborhood, and asking/ telling him to stop."
With this backdrop, a racially mixed crowd of people outside the court house cheered the lead prosecutor and the jury for courage and doing the right thing. Separately, the federal government is bringing charges against the three this coming February for violation of the black jogger's civil rights.
Because of the racial undertones of this case, an acquittal would likely have further divided this country; Georgia is calm today. Will the guilty verdicts composed of predominantly white jury go a long way in soothing the current racial divide?

#Arbery trial
###Background
The trial of three men for the killing of Ahmaud Arbery is set to wrap up with closing arguments today. Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael, and William “Roddie” Bryan Jr.—all white—are charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment related to the deadly 2020 confrontation with Arbery, a Black man, in Georgia.
The facts: On Feb. 23, 2020, the McMichaels chased after Arbery in their truck, Travis armed with a shotgun and Gregory armed with a pistol. Bryan followed in his own vehicle. The trio was allegedly concerned that Arbery was looking to rob houses in the neighborhood, though Arbery’s family said he was just out for a jog when he was “ambushed.” The pursuit ultimately ended with Travis shooting Arbery three times, killing him. Cell phone video taken by Bryan was later published online.
The case was a mess from the start, going through four different prosecutor’s offices. First, the Brunswick District Attorney's Office allegedly advised the Glynn County Police Department not to make any arrests. Gregory McMichael previously worked for the DA, Jackie Johnson.
>Commissioner Allen Booker said: "The police at the scene went to her, saying they were ready to arrest both of them. These were the police at the scene who had done the investigation. She shut them down to protect her friend [Gregory] McMichael." Commissioner Peter Murphy said that officers who responded at the scene had concluded that there was probable cause to make an arrest, but when they contacted Johnson'

For my 2022 reading challenge I have decided to read 1-3 books from every country in the world. This past year I attempted to do the same but the lack of preparation meant I was bogged down finding and waiting for books. Below is my reading list I have compiled as several people have mentioned they were interest.
Facts
It contains 520ish books with two countries I still need to find something for. 40% are female, 55% are male, and 5% are by various authors. There is a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. It includes everything from memoirs, cookbooks, histories, anthologies, legends, folkstories, poetry, plays, fantasy, romance, chick-lit, and scifi. The bulk is literary fiction.
Methodology
I started with the books I owned that I haven't read or wish to reread. I then looked through my TBR list on goodreads and reassigned those. From there I looked up my favorite authors on https://www.literature-map.com/, and included other authors similar to my favorites. From there I googled each country for their top 1-2 most popular authors. I finished with suggestions from reddit (including the country threads on r/books) and the amazing https://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/thelist/ . Authors with unlisted titles are because I was not able to find a copy of any book by the author at my library or for purchase (<7$) secondhand. These will need to be ILL and I’ll be deciding on the exact title when I apply for the loan.
Updates
I will be updating reviews of the books, as I go, on a subreddit I made for this called r/worldwidebooks . People are welcome to join me in the challenge for all of them, parts, or just to laugh.

Hello again Popheads raters! I realize it hasn't been that long since my last stats post, but this is important news (if you do rates)! I've made some updates to the rate songlist and search tool!!
##Songlist
The songlist now tracks albums we've rated!
###You can access the new sheet directly here
Note that the line between some EPs/Deluxe versions can be a bit blurred. If anyone has any good cases for one being counted but not another let me know. (I'll add more detail to that in a comment to the post)
You'll also notice two different fields called 'Rate average' and 'Album average'. Rate average details the artist's performance in the rate by counting every song that was included in the main rate. Album average on the other hand will only count songs from that album as valid. There are two main examples of songs being counted as part of the rate average, but not the album average
When rating separate projects in the same rate (Animal + Cannibal, All Your Fault Pt. 1 & 2, etc.) the album average will only count songs from that project where the rate average counts the two projects together
Songs are included in the main rate that aren't on the album in an official capacity. Think Halsey's Nightmare or Lorde's Homemade Dynamite Remix. Also note that this field is very much not set to official criteria (like Homemade Dynamite remix is on certain deluxe editions, but most fans don't include it when discussing the album as a whole). Since the field is not set to any specific criteria I'm open to counting things differently.
On the songlist 'Rate average', 'Controversy', 'Artist 11 Split', and 'Artist 0 Split' take all the songs in the rate to account (so including loose tracks and separate projects). All other fields are album specific and will not track loose tracks / other projects.
##Search Tool v2
The search tool now allows searching by albums! Note that inputting an album will show you all of the albums' tracks across all rates (ex. EMOTION will also show you Runaway With Me in winners, etc.). So if you only want to see the album in the rate it was in, set the 'rate search' to that specific rate at the same time to see that. Also as mentioned above if a song is included with an album and you think it shouldn't be let me know and I'll take a look.
In more boring news I also fixed the name search bug that plagued shor
... keep reading on reddit ➡According to an interview conducted on Irish Radio Station WLR FM today, around approximately 12 O'clock on Thursday October 7th Irish time, a new PlayStation title, which has been referred to as massive but unable to be named due to NDAs and the likes, will be revealed around the Christmas period which suggests either a return to PSX or a PlayStation presence at The Game Awards.
This upcoming PS title could have a Gaelic or Irish element due to the fact that the developer have contacted an Irish music company to produce Irish-lyriced song(s) for the game's OST. I know this is not much to go off of but that is all I could find out and nowhere else I have shared this has paid it any attention and I was just wondering if anyone else had heard about anything similar?
EDIT: For additional information purposes, the game is being made solely by PS by the sounds of things, it is confirmed to be a remake and the composer of the song as far as I could gather is a Michael McGlynn. If you go to WLRFM.com/listenback right now and go to the programme called The Lunchbox and click on the 12:00-13:00 slot and go about 30-35 minutes in you will find the interview after a cover of Creep. This is legitimate.

>The highlight of the scene was the role of Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith. In this confrontation against the common people of the capital, he fought accompanying his golden cloaks against this mob of rebellious inhabitants of the city.
According @Los7Reinos, on the last day of shooting in Cáceres, scenes of Daemon and his Goldcloaks fighting rebels in the streets of King's Landing were shot. It was also commented that in the scene there were a lot of extras.
Residents of Monsanto shared some details about two important scenes that were recorded there:
We're seeing a lot of discussion of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, in which arguments are being made of whether he was justified in using lethal force on August 25, 2020 in Kenosha, WI. There is a somewhat similar case also in trial right now about the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery on February 23, 2020 in Glynn County, GA.
I'm curious if people have been following the Arbery case, and how they think it compares to the Rittenhouse trial. (For one thing, the media discusses the 'Arbery trial' with the name of the person who was killed, and discusses the 'Rittenhouse trial' with the name of the person who committed a shooting.)
Rittenhouse Trial
Regarding the first shooting of that night, which killed Joseph Rosenbaum, there is video from a middle distance, and a few eye witness accounts.
The prosecution claims Rittenhouse initially threatened Rosenbaum, and that even though Rittenhouse withdrew afterward and Rosenbaum pursued, when Rosenbaum tried to take Rittenhouse's gun away, it was Rosenbaum who was acting in self-defense. Their argument is that Rittenhouse was the aggressor, and thus self defense was not a valid justification for shooting Rosenbaum, even if Rosenbaum tried to grab Rittenhouse's gun.
The defense claims that Rittenhouse was withdrawing, that Rosenbaum was belligerent and had threatened Rittenhouse, and that upon hearing a gunshot (fired by a third party), when Rosenbaum tried to take Rittenhouse's gun, it was reasonable for Rittenhouse to feel threatened such that using lethal force in self defense was justified.
(Please forgive me for leaving out a lot of detail. I'm not trying to put my finger on the scale, just draw comparisons to the Arbery case, as you'll see below.)
Arbery Trial
There is one recording of this shooting, also from a middle distance, but the only eye witnesses are people who are also defendants.
Arbery was jogging in a neighborhood near Brunswick, GA when three residents - Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William Bryan - pursued him in two vehicles, suspecting him of committing a crime.
Arbery came upon a stopped truck. Travis McMichael was standing outside the driver's door, holding a shotgun. Arbery ran past the truck on the passenger side. At this point the view of the camera is obstructed by the truck, but a moment later it records Arbery and Travis McMichael fighting over the shotgun. The tussle continues for a few seconds, during which Arbery punches Travis McMichael.
Shortly thereafter,

... keep reading on reddit ➡Campaign finance reports are in for City Council & School Committee, and once again I'm submitting myself to looking through them. The reports are the "8th day preceding election" reports, which were due on 10/25.
So, right off the bat, the clerk/registrar's office has bungled this up. They merged several candidates into a couple of pdfs (example: Mea Mustone, Andy Milne, Colin Walsh, Cheryl Rodriguez, Bill Giglio, Kathy Kreatz, and Paul Ruseau's reports are all in "Mea Mustone.pdf"), some of those pdf's pages are rotated 90 or 180 degrees, and Adam Knight's came through incredibly faintly. I've looked through a few times and don't see Jim Halloran's report. I'm reasonably confident it's not there, but feel free to correct me. UPDATE: The pdfs are now mostly fixed and updated. See link in comments.
A couple other technicalities:
Nearly a quarter million dollars has been given to the city council campaigns, with just over $150k spent. I was surprised to see David Todisco had raised the most of any candidate. You can also see that Caraviello hit the donors up for a ton of money but didn't spend it, so far (remember, there were 8 days until election when this report was due).

As the guilty verdicts were being read for the three White men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery, the mother of the murdered man bowed her head, his father shouted out an exultation and a crowd that had gathered outside the Georgia courthouse erupted in cheers and applause. “Thank God,” said one of Arbery’s aunts. No doubt that sentiment of relief was felt by many who feared that — as too often has been the case in this country’s history when a Black man is killed — no one would be held accountable.
The verdicts handed up Wednesday afternoon by a nearly all-White jury delivered a much-needed measure of justice to the family of Ahmaud Arbery and to a community that saw its sons in this 25-year-old Black man who went out for a jog on a Sunday afternoon only to be chased down and shot to death. “A modern-day lynching” was the description of civil rights activists who helped to make Arbery’s killing a flash point of the Black Lives Matter movement.
After a 14-day trial and deliberations over two days, the Glynn County jury found the three defendants — Travis McMichael, 35; his father, Greg McMichael, 65; and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan, 52 — guilty of murder and other charges, rejecting defense claims that the men were executing a lawful citizen arrest and acting in self-defense. Travis McMichael, who fired the fatal shots on Feb. 23, 2020, was found guilty on all nine counts charged, including malice murder. The men face up to life in prison and also have been indicted on separate federal charges, including hate crimes and attempted kidnapping.

Given that "Arbery’s killing came perilously close to being papered over by Georgia officials. The three men walked free for several weeks, and prosecutors first assigned to the case argued the shooting did not constitute an actual crime. Only when a video of the fatal encounter was leaked*, creating a national firestorm, was the case reassigned to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and arrests were finally made. The first prosecutor on the case lost her bid for

Some of us love them, some of us hate them, but regardless I took on this task in the name of transparency and to gain insight. This list is mostly complete, but the playlist plays on shuffle, making it difficult to catch every song. That also means it's very possible to hear the same song within a 30 minute period. Your store may have a different playlist all together but I thought I'd share my findings here. The complete list is 272 tracks long and I wouldn't be surprised if there were 28 tracks I missed. Also it's possible that songs are occasionally added or removed from the playlist.

The three notorious white men caught on video chasing and fatally attacking Ahmaud Arbery last February are now officially convicted murderers.
But Gregory McMichael, his son Travis, and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan” are not the only villains in the gruesome case plagued by allegations of initial prosecutorial misconduct before arrests were made 70 days after the 25-year-old Black man’s shooting death in Georgia.
The prosecutors who won the case argued that Arbery was on a jog through Satilla Shores, a mostly white neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia when the trio chased him down the street after wrongly suspecting him of burglary. Travis McMichael was caught on video footage—filmed by Bryan—firing the fatal shots. The defense for the three men argued that they were trying to perform a citizen’s arrest on Arbery in connection with suspected break-ins in the area.
After nine hours and two days of deliberation, a Glynn County jury on Wednesday found the three men guilty of felony murder in the Feb. 23, 2020 homicide death of Arbery. But Arbery’s murder was almost never prosecuted. And when the case did make it to trial, defense attorneys stepped over themselves to engage in ugly arguments rife with racist innuendo.
Every murder saga has its share of morally flexible defense lawyers, and prosecutors who fail to protect the rights of people of color are not exactly hard to come by in America. But this crew stands out from the pack.

After a year of cycle switch-ups, rerates, Swifties failing in rates, interacting with the other music subs (for once), Gamers finally getting their say, the loss of a very important community member, the loss of a less important community member, and any number of countless other obstacles we've finally reached the end of the 2021. And with the reveal of 70's Soul over the past weekend we have now completed our 5th session (cycle? series? season?) of Popheads Rates!
Someone suggested this to me earlier in the year (though I'm sorry I don't remember who!) (Edit: it was Niki! A huge thanks to them for coming up with the idea!! It was a ton of fun to work on!) and I think it'll be fun to take a look back at the past 12 months of rates now that All Stars 5 voting is open (speaking of, don't forget to submit your votes for wildcard spots before December 31st!)
This covers everything covered in the All Stars 5 cycle (+ All Stars 4). So the rates from last December (Contemporary R&B and 1987 Pop Guys) up to last month (High Concept Pop and 70's Soul)
##The Numbers
Over the past year Popheads had:

2867 ... 11s given out
1197 ... 0s given out
28 ... songenialities given out

Former Georgia District Attorney Jackie Johnson is facing five years in prison for allegedly helping “protect” Gregory McMichael after his son fatally shot Ahmaud Arbery.
The former Brunswick District Attorney was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday over her alleged actions surrounding the 2020 shooting.
The indictment claims that Johnson violated her oath of office and obstructed law enforcement. It alleges that after Travis McMichael fatally shot Arbery, his father Greg McMichael, who previously worked in Johnson’s office, called her cellphone and told her that he needed help.
“Jackie this is Greg. Could you call me as soon as you possibly can. My son and I have been involved in a shooting and I need some advice right away,” McMichael reportedly said in the voicemail.
Officers with the Glynn County Police Department had allegedly called her asking for advice on how to handle it, and the indictment alleges that she “knowingly and willfully directed that Travis McMichael should not be placed under arrest, contrary to the laws of the State.” It additionally claims that she “showed favor and affection to Greg McMichael during the investigation into the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery.”
Johnson had recused herself from the case over her connection to McMichael.
Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, has filed a lawsuit seeking more than a million dollars alleging that the arrests of the men involved in the shooting was delayed because of a cover-up.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the lawsuit alleges that “for nearly three months, Glynn County police officers, the chief of police and two prosecutors conspired to hide the circumstances surrounding Ahmaud’s death and to protect he men who murdered him.”

... keep reading on reddit ➡For my 2022 reading challenge I have decided to read 1-3 books from every country in the world. Last year I attempted to do the same but the lack of preparation meant I was bogged down finding and waiting for books. Below is my reading list I have compiled as several people have mentioned they were interest.
Facts
It contains 520ish books with two countries I still need to find something for. 40% are female, 55% are male, and 5% are by various authors. There is a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. It includes everything from memoirs, cookbooks, histories, anthologies, legends, folkstores, poetry, plays, fantasy, romance, chick-lit, and scifi. The bulk is literary fiction.
Methodology
I started with the books I owned that I haven't read or wish to reread. I then looked through my TBR list on goodreads and reassigned those. From there I looked up my favorite authors on https://www.literature-map.com/, and included other authors similar to my favorites. From there I googled each country for their top 1-2 authors. I finished with suggestions from reddit (including the country threads on r/books) and the very popular https://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/thelist/ .
People are welcome to join me for all of them, parts, or just to laugh.

... keep reading on reddit ➡Travis McMichael had every reason to fear a 25-year-old Black man running through his Georgia neighborhood and was justified in attempting to make a “citizen’s arrest” that led to the deadly shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, an attorney for the defense said in one final appeal to jurors.
Attorney Jason Sheffield said his client did nothing wrong when he and his father, Gregory McMichael, decided to chase after Arbery on the afternoon of Feb. 23, 2020, because of alleged reports of stolen goods, trespassing, and break-ins in the neighborhood.
“What was happening in their neighborhood scared them,” Sheffield said during closing arguments in the Glynn County courthouse Monday. “It was unsettling to imagine people lurking and sneaking around your property at night.”
Videos from neighborhood security cameras in the weeks before Feb. 23 showed Arbery and others on an under-construction property in the Satilla Shores area of Glynn County, Georgia. And seeing the man from these videos return gave the McMichaels probable suspicion to pursue and carry out a legal citizen’s arrest, which Sheffield argued are inherent parts of the duty and responsibility of protecting the neighborhood at the time. (Citizen arrests were once legal in the state of Georgia but have since been outlawed after public outcry following Arbery’s killing.)
But when Arbery decided to run up to Travis as he pointed a shotgun toward him, it gave Travis the right to defend himself.
According to the defense, even if Arbery was unarmed, the Black man’s decision to attack the shotgun-wielding Travis means he was justified in using self-defense, and that should be enough to set him free.
“You do have the right to make a citizen’s arrest,” Sheffield said. “You do have the right to stop a person and to hold and detain them for the police. And there is risk with that. And there are tragic consequences that can come from that.”
*Prosecutors, on the other ha
... keep reading on reddit ➡Nearly two years after Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, was shot and killed in a suburban Georgia town while jogging, the three white suspects accused of the slaying — Greg McMichael, his son Travis McMichael, and their neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan — are now on trial. They face charges on a total of nine counts, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and false imprisonment.
Arbery’s killing in February 2020 ignited national outrage. When a video Bryan recorded from his vehicle while following Arbery went viral online, viewers called it an unequivocal lynching. The graphic footage shows the McMichaels, both carrying guns, pursuing Arbery in a truck after he ran down their street in the mostly white Satilla Shores neighborhood near Brunswick. Following a short chase, the men corner Arbery, and a confrontation between Arbery and Travis McMichael ensues. During the struggle, Arbery is shot three times, twice in the chest, after which he slumps to the ground. It took 74 days after Arbery’s death for the men to be arrested and charged.
Defense attorneys will likely argue that the men’s actions were protected by Georgia’s citizen’s arrest law, which at the time allowed a person to detain someone whom they believe just committed a crime. The attorneys may claim the men acted in self-defense while attempting to carry out a legitimate citizen’s arrest of Arbery, whom they suspected of burglary.
Georgia’s outdated and dangerous citizen’s arrest law — one that was created in an era of slavery and emboldened citizens to act on their worst biases — has since been repealed. The law was replaced with a bill that limits who can detain citizens and when (business owners and workers who witness someone shoplifting or dining and dashing, for example.) But most states still have a version of these laws on the books, and as long as they endure, advocates say they could ultimately have tragic consequences.

On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery was jogging in the Satilla Shores neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia, when both Gregory and Travis McMichael began to follow Arbery with two firearms in their white pickup truck. On Wednesday, Travis McMichael was found guilty on all state charges, including malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit a felony. His father, Gregory McMichael, was found not guilty of malice murder, but the jury found him guilty on the other eight charges.
Bryan was found guilty of three counts of
