I just finished this movie and I love the way it was directed. There are a ton of subtle messages hidden and the movie leaves you with a ton of things to ponder over. What was your favourite scene/character and why?
P.S. I think Elsa has a really mature and understanding mindset which helps develop the main connection between Jojo and her. It was one of the things that made the movie even more beautiful for me.
Hey budds from r/movies**! A few months ago, I was literally just thinking about Jojo Rabbit for a few days as I was stuck at home when I watched it, and it was then I decided to write my viewpoint. It is long, but I think perfectly captures the beauty of the film from my perspective. Enjoy!**
I had earlier posted about how well of a movie Jojo Rabbit is (Hint: IT'S AWESOME!). I can't get myself to stop thinking about the movie, so I'm just going to type my view here, to get a few of these thoughts out of my head and to move on. Warning: It's going to be long!
I think Elsa Korr is one of the most intriguing characters that one can follow in Jojo Rabbit. She's just seen so much. She saw her parents being taken away by a stupid man who couldn't grow a full mustache, she saw her fiancΓ© dying due to tuberculosis and has to focus on all these memories to have the courage to live on amidst a community that wants her dead and believes in unreal rumors blindly. She's just 17! And yet she acts so sensibly, with such maturity, understanding and love, to correct an innocent soul, falsely lead to believe in the worst of things by most of the people around him. She's a nice role model for elder siblings. I truly fell in love with her. Lovely acting by McKenzie.
She remembers Nathan's favorite poet and even cries when Jojo recites what possibly could have been his last words: βWe need, in love, to practice only this: letting each other go".
I think Jojo also has faced the loss of his mother, but he has his friend Yorki and his father (if he made it out alive) with him, and as a child, cannot understand how serious times he has just witnessed. After hearing the execution of Captain K with machine guns, he walks away, not realizing how hugely a sad moment it was (Realization shall come later in life, when he reflects back). Yet he has someone who will take care him, take him under her wing: Elsa.
Elsa herself, on the other hand, has no close one left. She does not even know if any of her (other) relatives or friends would be alive! And sadly, she will have to figure out everything on her own, including how to raise Jojo and live on, and love again, after the most horrendous moments of her life. She doesn't have anyone to look up to, and will have to forgive the people who were disillusioned by Hitler and his false claims.

Right so I was on one of those wonky free streaming sites, like one of those "movies123" sites. I wanted to watch Jojo Rabbit, so I'd googled it, along with "watch online" or something. And it looked pretty promising.
I mean, the movie starts out very sort of serious and suspenseful. I figured, hey, it'll probably have a shift in tone after this long opening scene, I mean, Jojo Rabbit is a comedy, right?
So I keep watching the movie, I get into it, and it's an exciting film. Buuut, I notice an hour has passed and there's still no comedy, no Taika Waititi, no Scarlett Johansson, etc etc.
I remember that the film is set during 1917, so I google that, and wouldn't ya know, the Wikipedia page for the movie shows up, and everything makes sense.
Sooo yeah, I guess I'm watching two movies tonight. Pleasant surprise.
