A list of puns related to "Jesus at Herod's court"
Seems needlessly cruel.
>At that time Herod the rulerΒ heard reports about Jesus;Β and he said to his servants, βThis is John the Baptist; he has been raised from the dead, and for this reason these powers are at work in him.β
Matthew 14:1-2
"And Jesus charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod" (Mark 8:15).
>At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, βGet away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.β
I know there are more than one Herod. Let's refer to Herod The Great. Not his son (Herod Antipas, who never held title as king) the one who had John the Baptist beheaded. The reason I refer to him is he was the powerful one. The one the Roman's let rule freely.
The Insight book refers to him as the one that issued the decree to kill all males under the age of 2. Therefore causing Jesus family to go to Egypt or Bethlehem depending on which gospel you refer to.
How does the Org justify the fact that he died 4 years earlier?
Same as 607. They follow the reasoning of Josephus until it doesn't suit thier need. Then argue the dates are incorrect. (Refer to the Insight book.) To be fair the Bible is incorrect with its dates. The Org is just trying to justify it.
The Herod (Antipas)that was ruling 4 years before Jesus birth died 6 years after Jesus died, in 39 CE. How could Jesus family wait in Egypt or Bethlehem to only return once Herod was dead, for the child's safety?
Correct me if wrong, but wasn't Quirinius appointed governor of Syria only after the Romans disposed Archelaus (Herod's son) as king of Iudea?
If you do then that is really cool to me
This is part three of a series of online group discussions about the Jewish and Roman leaders active in Jesus' day, and any possible alliances or enmity he may have had with them. In this meeting we will discuss questions such as:
What did Herod Antipas and Jesus know and think about each other?
Did Jesus have an follower (informant?) from Herod's inner circle?
Why did Herod Antipas kill John the Baptist? The Gospels and Josephus each give different answers.
What relationship did Herod have with Pontius Pilate and Sejanus? Why was he accused of secretly conspiring with Sejanus?
In part one we explored the idea that the relationship between the family of Jesus and the high priestly family of Annas (Caiaphas) could be described as a feud with deadly consequences reaching beyond just Jesus. Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2YuYtrZtuE
In part two we explored the idea of any possible alliances that Jesus may have had with certain Romans leaders who could have seen Jesus' run for the king or high priest positions as an opportunity to advance their own agendas. This included asking very controversial questions about the de facto Roman emperor Sejanus (under Tiberius) and Pontius Pilate. Here is that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMe-XLeqIDg
