A list of puns related to "Internet radio licensing"
I like Live365 because they handle the licensing
But I love radio.co because theyβll develop and publish an app.
Any idea if thereβs a best of both worlds out there?
Thanks!

If I were to make a bot that could play radio streams from a select number of internet radio stations, would I need permission from the station or would I need the license to every song they play?
Me and a friend have had an idea of running our own radio station for a while now but we have never really found any great information on how internet radio licensing and what not works. The radio station is completely a passion project of ours, We're not making any money - it's just something to listen to every now and then and a form of promotion for upcoming or relatively unknown artists to get their songs heard.
My first question is if a track on the internet is available for free download is it possible to play this on my radio station without seeking explicit permission from the author? And would the answer be different if the artist was signed on a record label?
Secondly, if I only play freely available music will I still need some form of radio license from a licensing company?
Thanks!
For example if they wanted to play a Spotify playlist or a Pandora radio station in their store, would they be required to buy a license to avoid copyright infringement? Is this covered by spotify or other music streaming servicesβ terms of service? Iβm reminded of the old Hot Topic stores in the mall, and how they would play playlists of punk rock and alternative music over their loudspeakers, were they supposed to be licensing the songs they played in their stores?
Any local radio station can easily play the songs of X, Y, or Z artist. I don't see them having to brokerage expensive and complicated deals. Radio stations don't claim to be the exclusive distributors of X artist, and they certainly don't announce that after Y date, they'll stop playing the discography of Z as the rights will be transferred to another company. Can Warner Bros and the like even refuse a local radio station to play their records?! And the same is pretty much true with Spotify, I would say. Yes, maybe not 100% coverage, but you don't really need to have 4-5 music streaming services.
Compare this with the current clusterfuck that are movies and series. Streaming services having to pay exorbitant fees to have X movie in their catalogue, and sometimes for a short time. Consumers having to sign up to 4-5 services, etc. .
What gives?
So our friend an Australian music artist, Liam Cooper has been getting radio play with this track
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3ZSauKjUUc
We asked him about licensing it for a wedding video and he decided to license it out proper to wedding videographers for $55 AUD (around $41 USD). It includes an instrumental.
Just wanted to share in case any of you were interested, it's a great song for a wedding and it's nice to see an indie artist doing their own licensing.
Yesterday they updated the news on their website:
They will not offer any tests until Covid is somewhat under control.
Well.. OK. Legit reason as the tests are in person.
But as I already done preparing my upgrade (E->A) certificate and now I have to fight against forgetting 1200 learned questions :-(
It's a heavily residential area and they've started to play music outside because they have created an outside terrace to have covers which comply with the covid outside rule thing.
This is important for preppers in the USA because it makes a 10 year radio license for GMRS affordable by most people with a stable income and only has to be purchased by one person in your family. That said, I didn't see in the rules how the FCC defines "family" so there is that.
Again: GMRS license covers your family, not just you.
Unlike Amateur radio, no test is required.
It can run on higher power than FRS radios, it can also be used with repeaters. I believe it also has limited data capabilities.
If you're building out a localized radio network for your prepping community, it's worth putting into your consideration list.
FCC notice: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/FCC-20-184A1.pdf
Language regarding effective date:
I still believe every prepper group should give strong consideration to getting an amateur radio license for at least one person in their group as it definitely opens up your long range comms and community planning opportunities, but some people simply don't have the time or energy to dedicate to the radio world.
My phone runs out of security updates this spring. I have had a hard time finding a phone with this combination of features. I would most prefer a 2021 model.
It seems like the Moto Edge 2020 did but that is also going on two years old. Some International versions of Xiaomi phones have both stereo and fm but PLEASE I need help!!! THANKS.
Hello,
Just got Rogers wireless home internet installed. Curious what the login for the radio/antenna at 192.168.3.1 would be? I was able to log in to Bell's antenna to see signal stats when we had their wireless home internet service. I've tried all the defaults.
Thanks in advance.
Edit
To get access to the antenna stats enter blank user and password.
Hola companeres,
Me podrΓan recomendar alguna radio por internet o podcast?
edit: resolved - see the end
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take a look at this. I can't really troubleshoot this, it's way beyond my capabilities. Also would just like to confirm that the problem is Shield only, or Shield (2015) only.
There's an add-on for kodi that interfaces with SomaFM, an online radio site. The app has recently been updated to Kodi 19/Python 3. It is available in the Kodi repository.
However, when I run the app on my shield 2015, it crashes about 4/5 of the time. But it will play successfully once in a while. Would anyone tech inclined be willing to take a look and test on your setup and if you can, help figure out what the issue might be?
Here's a github thread about the problem- https://github.com/Soma-FM-Kodi-Add-On/plugin.audio.somafm/issues/12#issuecomment-1002813407
There are logs available in that thread to examine.
Oh- if you can: Get a stream to run, stop it, get it or another stream to run stop it, and do that three times, over two different instances, then it's working correctly, at least, more successfully than I have ever gotten it to run.
Thanks!
edit: to be clear, I'm looking for the following info:
1- Does the app crash on other Nvidia shields (2015 and otherwise). 2- For anyone technical minded- do they have any thoughts on what the problem might be. In that github thread one of the folks thinks it might be an audio codec issue.
edit: Turns out there's a conflict somewhere with the FishBMC visualization from the Kodi Repository. The problem happens if FishBMC is installed regardless if enabled or disabled. Uninstalling FishBMC fixes the problem.
Greetings All!
This is my first post in this subreddit. I have recently become a licensed ham radio operator, and would like to share with you why I think this is a project that is potentially worth your time.
If cell phone towers are overloaded with too many callers, or your local internet service provider is down for whatever reason, ham radio communications can fill the void if you need to call for help from known comrades or the wider world.
I have passed all 3 (US specific) levels of ham radio licensing exams in the last few months, and have plugged in with my local community of ham radio operators.
If you are inclined to getting involved with this sort thing, I am available to answer questions, either here in the comments thread or via dm's.
Earning your ham radio operators license is very much like passing a driver's license exam. There are sections of the radio frequency spectrum that are off limits to all but licensed ham radio operators.
The license is issued by the FCC, after passing a math-heavy exam. You must list your real name and a valid mailing address on your test application form. Your real name and mailing address ends up in a publicly searchable internet database. Anyone who hears your alpha-numeric FCC issued call sign can go online and look up your real name and mailing address.
But, PO Boxes are acceptable.
Soooo, lots of hoops to jump through. But, having a backup method to communicate with the wider world is, for me, what makes it worth it.
Ask away!
Hello again, well I'm gonna tell you the truth. 1 listener of this station had a wish to create a show with Polish music only, but it won't be very interesting for the other listeners and that's why 1 friend from Russia, I plus the radio presenters started to collect songs from other countries too. Only I know a bit of English, so I decided to write in this subreddit for help with the Romanian Christmas music. Who wants to send some songs?
Some months earlier I managed to set the language of my Google Assistant to Japanese, so it would tell me the weather for the day in Japanese. I later added the news too, expecting to hear local news... but it threw me local news from Tokyo. lol
I mean, it was pretty good. My very green japanese doesn't let me fully comprehend what's going on, but I manage to get some things through, which in turn has allowed me to further understand rapid speaking Japanese people from interviews plus some monologues.
While I could try to remember how tf I did that so you good people can do so, I just found a better resource. It has had some attention previously, last post being from 5 months. Still, I reshare in case you're new to the community or just missed those posts.
This link will let you listen the radio from around the world. Of course, Japan includeed! Granted, broadcasted Japanese is still different from what you might find on you day to day life, but immersion is immersion, and this can be used from pretty much any device. There're also mobile apps for Android and iOs. For disclosure, I'm not affiliated to these guys, but I believe their work is pretty darn good no to share.
Also note that I didn't find any way to support them (Financially), which is kind of weird even from someone who works with OpenSource software every day. The website is pretty well build, but it lacks TLS* certifications. It also detected my location based on IP I pressume, so if you're concerned about that, trust your VPN of choice.
Anyway, that was a pretty long post for a single link haha.

Hi, Despite a ton of searching, i cant find any information on how, or if its even possible, to create a free 24/7 stream for public listening.
The library is 20gb of impossible to find cd/tape/vinyl mp3 rips of 90's underground hip-hop.
I have a synology 920+ with a decent upload speed
I want to play the entire library on random and have anyone in the world who wants to be able to listen in do so without a login or any hassle.
Thank you for your time and information.
I used to be able to ask Siri to play different internet radio stations on my homepod but nothing seems to work anymore.
βPlay hollow Earth radioβ βI couldnβt find {station name} in your Apple Music libraryβ
Seems a very simple request but nothing i try works
hi all,
I want to have a VM inside my mac notebook (i7 7xxx 2.9Ghz QuadCore, 16GB Ram), that can be as lightweight as possible while still having a simple GUI to perform the following:
I am not a computer idiot, but I know very little about Linux, I can still follow some tutorial and run some command like Sudo apt-get or using VIM, but if there is some sort of error during installation or a package is missing then I might not have the best skills to solve it. Also I would still prefer having a basic GUI, at least I need it for my BitTorrent client.
As you can see, my Mac is not that super powerful so I dont want to install Windows 10.
Any recommendation would be highly appreciated.
