Is it inevitable that we'll get RoboUmps before the league upsets the umpire hierarchy by doing the obvious thing and assigning home plate to the umps that are good at it?
We all know the obvious solution to getting more accuracy behind home plate. I don't need to tell you about it.
But I'm increasingly worried that we're going to cut out a huge part of the game before we even see what a meritocratic umpiring system would look like first. I know I'm a luddite for not wanting RoboUmps, and I know it's for everyone's benefit if they're implemented, but daggummit I don't want to give it up before at least trying something that makes a little more sense than the current coordinated monkeyshines.
