A list of puns related to "Haig Club"
Something a little different for this weeks' Sunday book club choice. "The Comfort Book" by Matt Haig.
The Comfort Book is a collection of consolations learned in hard times and suggestions for making the bad days better. Drawing on maxims, memoir and the inspirational lives of others, these meditations celebrate the ever-changing wonder of living. This is for when we need the wisdom of a friend or a reminder we can always nurture inner strength and hope, even in our busy world.
Enjoy!... Love Producer Bob

Haig Point Club https://imgur.com/gallery/ETZgot4
With the RBC Heritage just ending I thought now would be the perfect time to introduce r/Golf to Haig Point Club as I've never even heard of it until recently. It is located just off of Hilton Head Island on Daufuskie Island, and I can't recommend this place enough.
To set the expectations early, I've had the chance to play the key Pinehurst courses, most of the Bandon courses, Harbour Town, Augusta National GC, and Peachtree Golf Club; and I enjoyed Haig Point more than any of them overall.
You have to take a ferry over to Daufuskie Island where the only vehicles are the shuttle to the golf course and the golf carts themselves. There are a few nice houses, a bar/restaurant on the beach for those that live there, and the course itself and its amenities.
As soon as you get off the ferry someone greets you and takes you over to the course, where you can hit complementary balls or eat a bangin' breakfast sandwich before the round.
When we played our first round there we were the only tee time of the day, so maybe the service was a little better, but the whole day felt like every staff member was there to give us the best time of our life. I don't think we heard "no" the entire time we were there, just "sure thing, give us a few extra minutes to do that for you".
And all of this for less than $300 in peak season and less than $200 outside of Spring/Summer. Comparable or cheaper than any of the clubs above besides some Pinehurst and Bandon courses, and not much more than a lot of the shitty courses on Hilton Head.
The next time you're heading to Hilton Head, skip every other course and play here as many times as you can manage. You won't regret it.
[ Note: my review numbers are from the number they are in my tasting notes. I have quite a few reviews, and I'm picking them to post rather at random ]
#12 Haig Club (40%) (Single Grain Scotch)
I know nothing about this one, either. Though I think that Single Grain means unmalted, and perhaps harsher, but not necessarily. Makes me think of the Hair Club for Men.
Nose: Honey. Vanilla. Butter? No burn, or just a little when I swirl. Some dark fruits.
Taste: Sweet, a little spicy.
Finish: Short, but sweet.A little spice. A little buttery. Possibly a little bitter. Easy going down.
Overall: The nose was more intriguing than the taste was, but the finish improved it. Pretty drinkable, but I donβt really have anything to recommend it. Again, the price pointβ¦ $50. Och, I donβt think so, at that price. Cool bottle, though
First of all, let's all point and laugh at Diageo for introducing a dubious grain whisky at an eyebrow-raising price, trying to justify it with a celebrity endorsement and apparently failing, becoming one of the only scotch whiskies to actually LOWER the selling price...
But, that accomplished, would anyone who's actually tasted it bother buying at $20? That's at least a price where I would consider it.
Looking to purchase cask strength Haig Club, but no luck at my local dealers.
Ok, so I have friends who like Haig Club (I know right, friends are icky), but hey, I have friends you know, I donβt post on reddit ALLL day, just most of the day! Anyways, Iβm not happy paying big bucks and having to go outside of Ontario to hunt down Haig Club, so uhh, why donβt we make our own eh?
So what is Haig Club? Well, its young grain whisky from Cameronbridge, a distillery most famous for making Beefeater, Smirnoff, and 70% of Johnnie Walker. Cameronbridge starts off with a single basic distillate. Take grains, mash and ferment it, then put it through a column still and distill it to the very high proof of 94.8%. The cheap vodka is just watered down, the better stuff is polished and/or distilled more times, add botanicals to the base distillate and you get gin, and well, put the distillate into a cask, and you get grain whisky!
So how can we clone it? Well the closest thing I have to Cameronbridgeβs base distillate is the 190 proof Everclear! So uhh, take a 750 ml bottle of Everclear, at 95% you have 712.5 ml of alcohol. Since we wanna barrel at 65%, (712.5/65%) β 750 = 384. Pour the bottle of Everclear into a jar, and add 384ml water to it to bring it down to a respectable barreling strength.
So the next step is to add a big fist full of Jack Daniels smoking chips to the jar. Yep, so unlike Diageo, Iβm not cheap as fuck. I donβt use 5th fill American Oak, I only use first fill wood chips from the 2nd best Tennessee whiskey distillery, Jack Daniels. Put that jar somewhere warm, and let that sunofabitch sit for a few days, and take a small sip every day to make sure it ainβt too oaked (because hey, oak is the enemy of SMOOOOTHHHH, the only important quality in whisky!))
After a week or so, you are ready to bottle! Go get a friend and bottle it! You now have cask strength non chill-filtered independently bottled handmade craft produced single grain whisky. But hey, what are we, members of the Malt Maniacs group on facebook? Hell no, we want the authentic Haig Club experience, not some pretentious as hell small batch whisky for facebook bottle porn! I want a sucker that I can chuck into the freezer and into a shot glass so I can catch Beckhamβs old team Man United!
We want that nice Diageo gold color for our premium Haig Club ripoff, so go get yourself a bottle of [caramel color](http://w
... keep reading on reddit β‘So I finally had a chance to work my way through a bottle of Haig Club at my own pace, originally intending to write a review, but I really canβt come up with a proper review of that stuff, it just really isnβt the type of whisky to stand up to careful scrutiny, itβs not that it is bad, there just isnβt much there. So instead I think I will offer some of my thoughts on what this whisky is supposed to do.
When I drink Haig Club, there is one comparison that I just cannot shake. That comparison is Crown Royal. Think about it, Haig Club is a grain whisky distilled using column stills to a higher proof and aged in used oak casks. Haig Club sells in a unique bottle and probably finds its way into more shot glasses and highball glasses than Glencairn glasses, just like Crown Royal. Hell, both whiskies were originally marketed in association with a famous person, Haig Club with Beckham and Crown Royal with the queen.
Objectively speaking, Haig Club does what itβs supposed to do pretty well. It probably is the best shooting scotch out there, and Haig Club really does a pretty good job in a high ball. As a mixer, I think Haig Club actually does a pretty competent job in bourbon and Canadian whisky cocktails such as Manhattans or even a lighter mint julip. Letβs be honest here, most scotches donβt really mix that well outside of the Rusty Nail, the peat and iodine is very difficult to tame for mixologists, and that alone gives Haig Club a selling point of sorts, itβs the scotch that works in the most cocktails. How big of a selling point that actually is however is pretty dubious. I mean, when was the last time you saw someone reach for a scotch when making a mint julip or an old fashioned?
The problem is, despite being competent in its intended role, I just cannot really justify keeping more Haig Club around. The fact that Haig Club is designed to be very light means that there are plenty of alternatives everywhere. Even Diageo themselves have the massively popular Crown Royal or even the Seagrams 7. Iβm not saying that light whisky doesnβt have a place in a market place. After all, more whisky is probably consumed by the shot glass than by the glencairn glass. I just struggle to see the value proposition with Haig Club. I guess internationally Canadian whisky and blended American whiskey aren't as renowned as scotch, so Diageo is hoping to use Haig Club as the βScottish shot glass fillerβ.
Overall, if you can get Crown Royal for cheaper, just go with Crown R

Plus the bottle looks amazing, and with a metal cap - brilliant.
Anyone here tried it?
Board agenda is here.
Another boring board agenda. There has got to be some juicy wine stuff in there somewhere, shouldn't there?

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Just interested in what y'all think about Haig Club
