[Scene] Northwest American Continent, New Edo, 1921, during the middle of Men's Suffrage

Map of North America here

First a short history behind this. As like what happened in OTL Japan, the Tokugawa Shogunate nearly closed off themselves from trade with the outside world save for the Dutch, Koreans and Chinese. Any other ship that made landfall in Japan would meet a cruel fate. The same happened here, only a random group of secret female samurai secretly assassinated the first Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu under the command of their leader, his consort Lady Tsukiyama. She grabbed power and instead of nearly shutting the country down, decided to organize a massive army to invade Korea once more. Unlike the first war with Korea, this war partially succeeded, and Japan gained nearly three fourths of the territory. There they were stopped by Ming China and were almost chased out but Lady Tsukiyama herself appeared on the battlefield and declared that her troops would advance no further. A peace was signed and any Koreans who wanted to were free to leave the new Japanese territory.

With Korea theirs, Lady Tsukiyama pushed her armies north and conquered the island north of Hokkaido. She then directed that large ships be built to sail into the east. The first two missions failed to return. She sent one more, promising the people that if this mission failed to return she would stick to their own borders. However, the third mission returned, reporting a massive continent rich in natural resources but inhabited with natives.

With this, she ordered that a massive fleet of warships be built to invade this new continent. Unfortunately she wasn't able to watch the first ships launch before her death. Her daughter was made the new shogun and led the armies to the shores of the new continent.

The natives of the new land were pretty much wiped out and the first settlement of New Edo was formed. The Shogun headed back to Japan and recruited more samurai, which by now had become nearly all female. Thanks to this radical shift in gender roles, women now held all the power in society.

Over the next two hundred years more Japanese colonies inhabited both Korea, the new continent and even some of the islands in between, including Hawaii. In 1603 when the first western traders landed in Japan, a vast change began in the colonies as well. They began to implement new technologies and ideologies into their societies. The shogun was worried about these new changes as she didn't want to lose valuable trade with the new colonies in the con

How much of modern Tokyo was part of Edo?

So, obviously Tokyo is a huge city. It's big enough that I feel like there's no way it even from a land perspective was as big as it is prior to Japan's industrialization when it was still called Edo. I feel like the area that's considered Tokyo has probably expanded outward since then. With that in mind I was wondering, what portion of the modern city was considered Edo back in the day? What area of the city is it?

Orgies of Edo (1969) [Pinku]

Orgies of Edo is part of a trilogy or depending on who you ask 4 series of Ero Guro Nonsenso Pinku violence from the infamous director Teruo Ishii which I've covered before on Horrors of Malformed Men which left me unimpressed for the most part and Blind Woman's Curse which had the advantage of starring Meiko Kaji in the lead role and combining multiple genre such as horror, yakuza action, drama and more.

Orgies of Edo, together wit the other 2/3 movies in this series, "Shogun's Joys of Torture", "Inferno of Torture" and "Love And Crime" easily represent the other, bigger half of the Pinku movement which manifested broadly in the 70s in Japan. I've covered a lot of Pinku movies before but most of them were part of the smaller, arguably feminist side of the movement, which tried to turn the tropes and rules against its owners and deliver an empowering smart movie instead of a softcore degrading torture porn. Movies such as Female Prisoner 1,2,3 and 4 or Blind Beast. However today we'll tackle the bigger side of Pinku, the more degrading, pretty non PC at times as we'll see soon and overall dangerous side of Pinku Eiga. For a bigger view on the dangers of Pinku Eiga, the movie Antiporno by Shion Sono tackles that topic extremely well and I've also done a review for it so feel free to check it out.

Orgies of Edo is similar to other adaptations of the works of Edogawa Ranpo's works such as Horrors of Malformed Men or Ranpo Jigoku. The movie features 3 separate stories, connected through a common character. In this one is a doctor. Each story tackles one or both of the 2 leading themes. Love and sadism

The first movie is about a pure woman who is tricked by her misplaced love for a Yakuza higher-up into becoming a prostitute. The main theme of this segment is obviously unconditional and blind love and it's arguably the tamest of them, tackling a spiritual degrading more than a physical one.

The second segment is arguably the less "PC" one, as it features the daughter of a rich merchant suffering from a mental illness which makes her uncontrollably attra

[Event] EDO kicks-off construction of it's largest project and more

Jezan Qamr Integrated Project (JQIP) is an integrated oil and gas development across the Jezan-Qamr reservoirs in southern Oman.Β It is the largest capital project in EDO’s history, with reserves of more than 650mn barrels of oil equivalent. A total budget of $1.5 billion has been allocated, and is set to be complete by Q4 2031. The facilities will be built to handle the production of oil and gas from the Jezan-Qamr oil reservoirs via miscible gas injection (MGI) – an enhanced oil recovery mechanism pioneered by EDO - and the production of gas from Socotra offshore reservoirs via pipeline through partial recycling of sour gas. When complete, the facility will deliver: 8 MM SCMD of sweet gas, 80 thousand BPD of oil, and 18 MM SCMD of high pressure sour injection

Sohar Aluminium is the first Aluminium smelter in Oman, will now rebrand it's name to "Oman Aluminium". The CEO has announced in a press release that a new plant in Duqm has started construction and will be operational in Q1 2030. Oman Aluminium will increase its current production of 375 thousand tonnes per annum, to a 975,000 thousand tonnes per annum. The new plant will have a facility to recieve and export aluminium via the state of the art Duqm Port.

Salalah Methanol Company will also change its name to "Oman Methanol Company", and has begun construction in Shihr port, to be commissioned by Q4 2029. The capacity will be the same as the existing methanol plant in Salalah, to double the national production from 3000 to 6000 metric tons per day. The feed stock is natural gas, supplied by the Ministry of Energy through Oman Gas Company.

All contractors that are to be awarded any projects must have a minimum 80% Omanization rate.

What sort of sports would be played or watched by the Japanese during the Edo period?

When I think of Japanese sports, I generally think baseball, and maybe soccer, but these are Western imports of the past century and a half or so. So that got me wondering what kind of sporting activities those have replaced.

So main question is, as stated, what kind of sports were played during that period, but also, how class conscious was sporting? Were there games reserved exclusively from the Samurai classes, assuming they even played them? Or likewise, sports which were considered only playable by the peasants?
