Tanks have persisted for over a century of warfare, but what's the full story of tank vs. anti-tank?What are some major points in history when the advantage shifted one way or the other, and why?

I was getting all ready to post an Aprils Fools Day question when a time portal opened up in my room. A British soldier charged out and, after a tense few minutes of shouted English, calmed down and realized he was in the US circa 2021, and I learned he was from the Great War.

Surprisingly, he didn't ask about whether or not the Allies won or the state of the modern world, but simply laughed and said "Whatever this future world has in store, I know one thing. Tanks are definitely obsolete by now. Back in my day they're nothing but slow, unreliable rust bucket metal coffins with bolted armor that spall and get stuck in mud and break down. And that was before the Germans got reversed and K-bullets in there, not to mention bundled grenades."

I'm not sure if his opinion is typical of a British WW1 soldier (though that might be interesting to know), but putting that aside I just had to tell himthat tanks are still used today. You had to imagine the look on his face, but I'll admit I couldn't really explain why once he started asking follow up questions.

"Surely," he said, "With all these fancy gadgets you have here, someone has invented something that can one shot those tin cans?"

"They do. They're called ATGMs."

"..."

"Oh, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles. They can be carried by everything from individual soldiers to being mounted on attack helicopters. There's also laser-guided bombs, armor-piercing bomblets from cluster-munition firing artillery, and oh also drones now."

My temporally displaced guest is practically screaming at me now: "How can they possibly survive!?! Better question, how'd they even make it this far!?!"

Long story short: I know that tank and anti-tank technology and tactics have danced with each other for over a century, but I don't have a good "narrative" of the evolution if that makes sense. What periods did tanks have the advantage? What periods was AT more powerful? What were the biggest or longest times one side had the upper hand? Were there any notable times when one side or the other stagnated or fell way behind for some reason? What specific innovations and breakthroughs in tactics, doctrine, technology, or design led to these shifts in the balance of power?

If one of us can give me and him the full picture, that'd be great, but if you specialize in a certain time period (i.e. late Cold War, WW2), I'd appreciate an era-specific overview of what was happening in tank and AT warfare during that time, who had the upper hand,

Ok after numerous posts regarding anti-tank warfare I expect this to be the last one. Is this a good anti-tank plan?
  1. Go mobile warfare doctrine (obviously not just for the TD's, if i'm industrialy capable of pulling off this plan then I should be capable of getting a tank army)
  2. Build 8 40 width medium tank destroyer divisions concentrated purely on dealing as much damage to tanks (+5 guns, maybe anti-tank support(idk haven't checked how much it affects my stats))
  3. Split these into 4 groups of 2 divisions and place them alongside the front line
  4. Whenever enemy tank divisions attack your infantry front lines send the closest 2 TD there
  5. Since they're fast by the time they arrive the infantry, if properly entrenched, should still be alive
  6. TD's take over the battle and take down most of the tank's org.
  7. Infantry comes back fresh with full defense while the enemy tanks have no breakthrough and finishes the job
  8. If infantry is incapable of finishing the job just leave the TD's there, once one infantry division goes down they'll get replaced by the TD which are guaranteed to win this battle
  9. Divert the 2 TD divisions to another tank vs infantry defense

Ik Ai never makes good tanks, this is supposed to work in multiplayer

Would it be possible for civilians to counter and disable a modern day main battle tank without anti-tank weapons in some sort of guerilla warfare scenarios?

When I see videos of modern day MTBs, they seem unstoppable. I know there are military grade anti tank weapons, but assuming some sort of urban, guerilla warfare, would there be anything people can do in some sort of really ingenious way? What weaknesses do they have? I suspect the biggest weakness are the crew member inside, and maybe just waiting them out for them to piss and snipe them would be best approach.. but any other ideas?

All cruisers need anti-submarine warfare planes or depth charge projectors.

If Submarines are here to stay, cruisers need to have the ability to project anti-submarine weaponry within at least a couple kilometers. Maybe an option somewhere between planes and dropped depth charges, like the ability to launch depth charges off the side of the ship?

It's infuriating to have a submarine appear right next to me in my heavy cruiser and have no other option but to try and run it over with depth charges while giving up my ability to angle etc.

DD's have the mobility to be able to make depth charges work but it's beyond painful in sluggish heavy cruisers.

An Introduction to Anti-Tank Warfare

I just realized I hadn't posted anything for like, 2 months. Hopefully people still recognize me. And if you actually cared, Exiles and that wilderness thing I was working on is cancelled. Non-canon. Here's another one-shot to reignite some interest.

Happy New Year's everyone.

The humans have these things called β€œarms expos” where β€œdefense” companies peddle their wares to all the different militaries in human space. This one was on their homeworld, Earth, called the International Defence Industry Exhibition, organized in Kielce, Poland. I never caught on to why humans organize such things, as I have seen many an alien and human alike take pictures of the most advanced equipment.

I was part of a small Byota delegation to the fair. We had observed human infantry’s effectiveness against armor in the Dylos conflict and the Department of Security and Force Projection were looking to acquire some hardware to purchase or at the least, evaluate..

After walking through the tenth booth of power armor, fourth tank, third firing range, sixth light vehicle, ninth table advertising night vision goggles of all things and a lightweight, in-atmosphere fighter, I decided that the hangar floor didn’t have what I was looking for and headed onto the tarmac. In a distant lot, some twenty tanks were moving in synchronicity, apparently performing β€œSwan Lake”.

I left the tarmac onto one of the paths onto the grass. More booths, more soldiers and businessmen, more things that I would have taken interest in if I weren’t so singlemindedly focused on my prize. The power for a single infantryman to take on a tank by himself and win, that was incredible. To quote human literature, give David the sling to slay Goliath.

Eventually, I came across a booth that was showcasing anti-tank weapons. It surprised me how, simple it was: a fancy tube with some sights. This slays tanks? As much as the white-shirted pitcher fondled the demonstration model, showed me the triggers, flip up sights, mounting rail, dud rocket that came out of the tube, combat footage from the Dylos war, I just couldn’t bring myself to sign the buy order for these, toys.

β€œYou know what? Here’s my business card, and,” he pulls out a pen, scribbling an address on the back and handing it to me, β€œCome to this location at 7:00 AM sharp tomorrow, I’ll throw in a demonstration to persuade you to buy from us.”

The scream of an overhead bomber concluded our meeting.

My implant automatically placed the meeting on my to-d

Tanks and anti-tank warfare in WW2 Burma campaign? (1944-1945)

Title question is a little bit vague, I have several smaller questions that roughly fit this theme (time period is around Battle of Kohima and Imphal and after)

How did Japanese tanks fare against Allied tanks?

(According to http://www3.plala.or.jp/takihome/history2.htm, Japanese 14th tank regiment had Type 97, Type 97 improved and Type 1 75mm SPH. )

How did American 37mm tank on M3 Stuart and M3 Lee perform against these Japanese tanks?

Apart from using their own tanks, how did both sides deal against enemy tanks? Did they still extensively use anti tank rifles given that the tank technology of the theater was lagging behind?

I know that Ganju Lama of Gurkha rifles took out Japanese tank with PIAT to receive Victoria's Cross but how common were PIATs compared to other means of anti-tank warfare?

However, its hull is quite fragile for its tier, making this tank more suitable as a second-line support vehicle, firing at its enemies from distance.

Why is chemtech drake's buff so anti-tank?

Chemtech drake is the only buff that seems like it cannot be used by an entire class. If you look at the rest:

  • Cloud Drake: Slow resist and movement speed, can be used by anyone.
  • Hextech: Attack speed and ability haste, can be used by anyone.
  • Infernal: Extra AD and AP, weighted towards damage dealers, but still increases damage of tankier champs.
  • Mountain: Extra resistances, weighted towards tanks, but still usable for everyone.
  • Ocean: HP regen, usable by everyone

Then enter Chemtech, extra damage for having less health than the opponent. I understand Chemtech Drake's fantasy is "always fight even if you're low on HP because you can turn it around with extra damage", but in reality what the current iteration does is mean that with say, 3 stacks of it a champion with LDR deals almost an extra 50% damage to tankier champions.

I understand tanks have been really dominant the entire season and Divine Sunderer, Cut Down, Lord Dominiks, Serylda, Void Staff, Eclipse, Kraken Slayer, Liandry, Demonic Embrace, Blade of the Ruined King, Black Cleaver, Riftmaker aren't enough to keep them down, but did they really need to add an entire dragon just tailormade to counter them further?

Also, you could have the exact same fantasy for Chemtech Drake simply by making it having a lower HP % than the enemy. That way you keep the "fight even if you're behind in HP" fantasy but not make it so people just permanently deal extra 8-24% damage to tanky characters.

Why is r/conspiracy spreading so much anti-vax disinformation? Why r/conspiracy is waging biological warfare on America

For years people have speculated that that sub has mods who work for foreign troll farms to spread disinformation to Americans but while I initially thought that was somewhat far-fetched (but not impossible) it seems much more likely now with so much of the sub consisting of anti-vax disinformation. Pretty much every type of anti-vax propaganda is prevalent on conspiracy. Everything from downplaying COVID (despite a COVID infecting having a variety of horrifying long-term effects that are still being discovered) to lying about the vaccines, to disgustingly and disgracefully comparing anti-vaxxers to Holocaust victims, everything. Conspiracy’s mods and major users seem to be playing the propaganda technique of spreading a variety of contradictory disinformation that ultimately aims to get people to not follow pandemic safety precautions or get vaccinated, thus helping the pandemic rage on and new strains be mutated. Conspiracy is waging biological warfare on America at this point.

You know how many subs did protests to get nonewnormal banned? I am wondering is it possible someone can help make a sitewide protest to happen against conspiracy? Conspiracy is far bigger then nonewnormal ever was and is now spreading even more propaganda.
