Current 2022 Anti-Poaching Volunteer Opportunities

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on which organizations are actually allowing international volunteers focused on anti-poaching efforts in African countries.

I am a veteran if that matters, but I'm not trying to become a ranger, or think I'm qualified to teach locals how to track or anything like that. I'd be happy pounding t-posts if that's what it came down to.

IAPF is not accepting any volunteers it appears. I've been looking at https://old.reddit.com/r/antipoaching/wiki/frontline-conservation#wiki_volunteer but a lot of organizations only have links to donate or fundraise, not volunteer.

If anyone has any updated information, or has heard back from orgs trying to do the same I'd appreciate any info,

Thanks!

I like 2500 USD to raise,
In the coming 30 days

Please help before a unique species will be disappeared
Please support the PDC project community Anti-Poaching members who volunteered

So, it will grow,
Day by day, very slow,
Donations can be made below:

With on my face day by day a little bit more hair
Greetings from Ron, being Dutch Stichting PDC chair

Our collaboration with the local communities in conserving the painted dog remains solid and is growing.

Having the Mabale Community APU volunteers on board has allowed us to significantly expand our area of operation and thus the blanket of protection we can provide for all wildlife Two other local communities, Nabushome and Dopota, have shown commitment to protecting painted dogs forming their volunteer APU patrolling their local area and removing snares.

We have since supported them with basic field kit and training, with Encok Zulu, our APU Manager, spearheading the program.

With your continued support, we will continue and extend supporting these critical initiatives.

Due to a 100 % matching funding partner up to 2.500 USD your impact in the field will be doubled!

Your support makes the difference in the field. With your help we can reach a stunning total of 2.500 USD!

Blake's anti poaching work is problematic and anti poaching work isn't as benevolent as it seems

Blake is specifically involved for Soldiers for Wildlife which is the anti poaching unit he heavily promotes on instagram and is tied directly to. Since he has a platform, I do feel this should be talked about since it's heavily being promoted. Before I talk about Soldiers for Wildlife and the consequences of that organization I first want to build up why anti poaching units are an issue to begin with.

Edit to add I'm not trying to blame Blake or say he's the sole reason this is happening. I was trying to bring this up because this is something he actively promotes, and then dissect why this organization is problematic, and needs a second take.

First I'll start with the most important link and the entire crux of my argument. Anti poaching is relying on enforcement and becoming a war:https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2020/01/war-rhino-poaching/604801/And that isn't good for anyone. It's a really in depth article, but extremely good and I'll break it down also in the rest of my post with supporting citations.

Poaching is an economic and social problem and an unregulated police force(which many anti poaching units especially led by people from outside countries have become) is making the problem worse.Shoot to kill is one of the most problematic aspects of it, and what is abused most often:https://sites.utexas.edu/wildlife/2015/01/19/shoot-to-kill-policy-injustice-in-the-name-of-conservation/

Many times it isn't used as a last resort. The worst effect of that is the distrust in the community that it causes. For people who are caught up in a literal war, they don't see people who are coming into their communities, arresting, shooting and using violent methods as these great heroes. Poaching is a community problem and having a lack of support from the community is a big roadblock.

And that brings me to Soldiers for Wildlife that Blake is heavily involved in. Soldiers for Wildlife was created by someone from America and primarily uses a method of enforcement. Not only do they use these militaristic enforcement methods, they are buying indigenous land to build their conservations. That's a problem because it displaces the local economy. Conservationists and people who already work in the field exist, and the ideal solution is empowering the existing infrast

Could someone please clarify what this anti-poaching clause means?

The Employee covenants with the Company that [he/she] shall not, for a period of 2 (two) years after the termination of [his/her] employment in accordance with Clause 9 (Termination), without the prior written consent of the Company, either alone or jointly with or on behalf of any person, directly or indirectly, canvass, solicit or approach or cause to be canvassed or solicited or approached, any person who at any time during the period of 2 (two) years prior to the date of termination, is an employee, customer, client, or vendor of the Company or with whom the Employee has had dealings during the course of [his/her] employment.

This is a clause in my new offer letter. Does this mean I can't join another company my current company has dealings with for 2 years?

There is a class action anti-trust suit against my employer and 5 other companies as a result of a no-poaching agreement designed to depress salaries to increase the profit margins for said companies.

I have worked my butt off for years. I knew my company didn’t pay top dollar salary but I always felt like I had that imposter syndrome thing, and since I applied at one of the other companies about a year ago for a few positions, and all of those applications got rejected, it only strengthened that mindset and i stayed where I was. I read the entire indictment, and our CEO is only cited once in it, but his statement made it very clear that he was going along with this illegal agreement, and actively took measures to pay his employees as little as possible. Come to find out I’m really worth about 50% more than what I’m getting paid. I’m disgusted and I feel taken advantage of. The silver lining… is that I’m told that should the suit be successful, i and my fellow employees affected by depressed wages may be entitled to triple the lost wages (less lawyer fees which I presume is 33%). I did some fuzzy math and assumed a best case scenario and that value came out to about $150k. I have no idea how long it’ll take, but that would be a just dessert.

Fuck anti-poaching agreements.
Today i had an interview with the last one of 4 companies in my area that have jobs in my field. I left my original company over a year ago because of Toxicity that made my time in the army look tame. I came up fast in that company. Within 3 months i was more reliable and productive than every other employee besides my cousin who if I'm honest is just built different. My supervisor lied to my boss and got me fired for insubordination. After i got video proof and eyewitnesses i was given my job back. But i left because the supervisor got no punishment.
Now every company in my field has refused to hire me as they have a no poaching agreement with my former company. It lasts 5 FUCKIN YEARS! I can't start over making less than 15 an hour for 4 more years! My training and certs are worthless to me now. I have no option but to start over. Wish me luck. Fuck Corporations.
