So I have purchased many firearms in California before and I have never been denied or delayed or anything, I recently purchased a Chinese SKS with a fixed magazine no bayonet no grenade launcher and no pistol grip or any other scary features, when the nice lady at the gun store entered the information into dros she put manufacturer Narinco and model SKS, and it said it was denied as an assault weapon, she then put the manufacturer as "people's republic of China" and the model "type 56" and the DROS accepted it, I am now in the 10-day waiting period waiting to pick up the gun. My question is after the dros accepted it are they just now going to do the background check? or will they deny my sale based on the type of firearm it is? Thanks 👍
Hey /r/CAGuns, I have a question that I would like to ask instead of relying on my local Fudd FFL.
My neighbor has been looking to build an AR15 and I have been eager to help him in the process. He can't seem to find lower receivers in stock, and I recently found and purchased an Aero BLEM lower that is on its way to my FFL.
My question is: Can my neighbor go with me to my FFL and DROS the lower in his name, so I don't have to DROS + PPT it? It seems like this should be okay, and not a "straw purchase" because he will be the one starting the DROS for himself, and I am essentially gifting him the purchase of the lower, no different than if I had offered to pay for the part at the register.
I've not done this before, so I wanted to get some opinions first. If I have to PPT him another lower that I already own, and replace it with this new one, I am also okay with that.
Thoughts? Am I way off here?

My drivers license turned out to be expired. I went to the dmv today to renew, but I wont br my RealID DL until 2 weeks. Can I use the temporary paper license to finish the DROS?

First thing to understand about private courts is there are several important institutions: In libertopia we use DROs (dispute resolution organizations) aka courts. Another source we use is insurance. Insurance works two-fold. It acts both as a cost limiting factor in many instances but also as a valuation of reputation.
First lets talk about what is crime- in libertarian society it would be NAP violations and within those reciprocal responses are generally preferred in the immediate an restitution in the long term. The goal of criminal court is restitution not punishment. However that restitution falls upon the principle actor of the crime and obviously some punishment may be involved or the rich can simply buy away murder. Modern criminal courts only focus on punishment. So the most obvious crimes are those to life, person, and property or rape assault murder and theft. I will circle back to these.
So I take out a policy with my insurance that is focused on monetary damages for many cases. The cost is part of some subset of premiums that likely escalate greatly as the cost of the premium only really focuses on court costs and increasing payouts probably increase length of battles. If you are ruled to be a murderer you'd have to pay the restitution up to my policy value. Basically that person spends their time paying back their insurance because immediate payment would go hand in hand with a guilty verdict.
So what don't pay right? Insurance acts as a value of reputation. Your presence is a risk many places. They vouch for you to not shoot up Walmart. Not paying basically isolates yourself. No voucher...limits your options. Even private roads. You basically go into house arrest. You keep breaking that you may go to a penal colony focused on indentured servitude to pay back and for your maintenance. Outside of LEO which I think we can imagine as a private organization the inner workings of finding a court are now similar. Even if I pay immediately my reputation and my insurance may be so high as to limit people vouching for me until a company is willing to take that risk.
Theft may fall more into civil cases despite being more truly criminal.
Ok in civil court or disputes it is quite simple. Lets say you and I contest ownership of a computer. We can agree as many people do to meet before a judge with no coercion because we are both rational individual who would like this solved. This is the same thing that happen

Checking Calguns Marketplace and I see off-roster guns I'd like to buy, but it's in the Bay Area and I'm in SoCal. While I do travel up north on occasion, I usually don't travel more than once every month to two months.
From my understanding it's illegal for an FFL to DROS an off-roster handgun to a lowly regular citizen such as myself (which is why the PPT is necessary), but since it would be PPT, DROS is taken care of. The challenge is just the 10-day waiting period for pickup, hence the ship to my FFL down here in SoCal question.
In other words, since I did a PPT and cleared DROS, the gun is mine and I'm eligible for pickup...can I pick it up at a different FFL than the one I did the PPT at?
