Ukrainian parliamentary election results

The votes have been counted and the Christian conservatives have won the first Ukrainian parliamentary election since the restructuring, the deputy prime minister has already called to congratulate the head of the Christian Conservative party.

The Christian conservatives will have there working cut out for them as they must handle the ongoing crisis, in fact just this morning the head of the Christian conservatives Feodorov Plushenko stated the communists will submit to the government or be annihilated he is also the most likely to be appointed prime minister by his party.

We have breaking news it seems the communist militia groups have declared themselves the Ukrainian Soviet republic and have raided a military base in northwestern Ukraine and have begun exchanging fire near the city of Lviv with neo nazi forces, Ukrainian guardsmen have been deployed to put and end to the fighting

[SUMMARY] Finnish Parliamentary Elections 2023

The elections this year ceded the following results -

Party Leader Seats % Of votes
Social Democrats Sanna Marin 60 30%
Finns Riikka Purra 24 12%
National Coaliton Petteri Orpo 40 20%
Centre Annika Saarikko 26 13%
Green League Maria Ohisalo 20 10%
Left Alliance Li Andersson 16 8%
Swedish People's Anna-Maja Henriksson 10 5%
Christian Democrat Sari Essayah 2 1%
Movement Now Harry Harkimo 1 0.80%

The sudden drop popularity for the Finns party presumably comes from the increasing Russian threat in the east, and the unprecedented rise of the Social Democratic Party presumably comes from the same thing, seeing as last year the party was the one to propose the NATO vote

It is expected that the Social Democrats, Centre and Left coalition form a coalition to get the majority of votes.

[Election] Arab Republic of Egypt Parliamentary Elections 2023

June-July 2023

The seven months between Sisi's resignation from the Presidency and departure from Egypt on 20 October 2022 and the June, when the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces had promised parliamentary elections would be held, were less tumultuous than the months that had preceded Sisi's departure, but they were not by any means peaceful. After all, Sisi's abdication had been only one of their demands; others, like the end of corruption, the release of political prisoners, and general amnesty for Egyptians who had been persecuted under Sisi's government, including those who had been forced to flee into exile abroad, had so far gone unmet. Moreover, to say that the people of Egypt were skeptical of the SCAF's promises to hold democratic elections and enact other reforms empowering civil society would be an understatement. While many had believed the SCAF when they had made these promises in 2011, it was much more difficult to take them seriously now, after the principle role they had played in the overthrow of Morsi in 2013.

In the seven months between October and June, large protests remained the norm, though the crowds would never again reach the size of early October. Inch by bloody inch, these protests extracted concessions from the SCAF, who remained convinced that to push back too hard in such a volatile time would see their positions in a future Egypt seriously threatened. In February, the SCAF (really, an Egyptian court, but it was plainly obvious that the ruling was permitted by the SCAF) legalized all opposition parties that had been banned since 2013, including, most prominently, the Muslim Brotherhood affiliated Freedom and Justice Party, accompanied by a general amnesty for Sisi-era political prisoners (to include members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups arrested for "terrorism"). These groups wasted no time hitting the streets, hoping to replicate the electoral success that 2011-12 had brought them--only this time, without the coup that came afterwards.

By April, the list of parties and alliances running in the Parliamentary Elections had more or less solidified.

##The Egyptian People's Alliance

Consisting of an alliance of center and center-right parties, predominantly Islamist in orientation (though there are a few secularist parties involved in the alliance--Egyptian politics are just weird like that), the Egyptian Peop

[EVENT] 2023 Cuban Parliamentary Elections - the End of the Castro Era

Much has happened in Cuba since the last election in 2018. Not only did Raul Castro announce that he would be stepping down from governance, but the ascension of Miguel Diaz-Canel also saw a referendum on constitutional reforms that ranged from term limits for head of state to the official banning of discrimination based on gender, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. Provided he wins the 2023 elections (very likely) this will Diaz-Canel will lead for another five years until 2028, when a new President will be elected. Other reforms included the inclusion of the position of Cuban Prime Minister on a five-year term. The first, and current, Prime Minister is Manuel Marrero Cruz, who will hold the office until 2024.

Today, however, is a new Cuban election. Cuban elections don’t function like those in bourgeois democracies, but rather have largely local nomination and nomination by local assemblies. Candidates are neither allowed to campaign nor are they allowed to run as a part of a party – communist or otherwise. There have been few radical changes in Cuban politics. 603/605 of the seats in the National Assembly of People’s Power were filled in the first round of voting (with two municipal representatives failing to get 50% of the vote, and therefore their seats remain vacant until the second round of voting). Another notable event, however, saw 335 of the 605 seats filled by women, marking an increase in women’s representation by 2%, up from 53.22% in 2018. Granma reported voter turnout of 87%.

From there, the National Assembly voted for President, and Miguel Diaz-Canel was selected for a second term. Another election took place, which saw the election of Miguel Diaz-Canel as the First Secretary of the Communist Party, a position held by Raul Castro previously. This election marks the end of the Castro era of Cuba (though some argue it ended when Diaz-Canel was elected President).

[EVENT] 2023 Parliamentary elections of Afghanistan

Parliamentary seating chart

The 2023 elections have seen the PDPA see massive gains in seats, becoming the single largest party in the House of the People. This is mainly due to the unification of many left-wing parties under the PDPA's big tent. Critics of the PDPA, however, say that that the PDPA rigged votes with their Regional Defense Council system. The two rising stars of the PDPA, Baharak Hafizkhel and Zafran Ahmedani both won seats.

Although the PDPA has seen gains, it is highly expected that they will not be able to secure much in next year's Presidential election. The PDPA has already announced that it will run Sayed Mohammad Gulabzoy as President.

The Speaker of the House, Mir Rahman Rahmani (Independent) has been able to hold onto his position.

Due to such a showing of the PDPA, rumors are abound that the National Islamic Front of Afghanistan, Islamic Society, and Islamic Party will attempt to unify in order to combat the "communist menace" of the PDPA.

[Election] [Retroactive] Estonian Parliamentary Elections 2023

###Overview

The following is an overview of changes within the Estonian political climate between 2020 and 2026. Changes are largely shaped by the Ukrainian War, which took place not so far away from Estonia, and raised concerns among many citizens.

In 2023, Estonia held parliamentary elections. In these elections, trends generally continued following the 2019 election. The following is an overview of major Estonian political factions.

The Estonian Reform Party continued to surge, cementing the control the party has had on the nation since independence. The Reform Party is a classical liberal party which emphasizes a low tax policy and promotes ease of doing business. By focusing a majority of campaigning and policy on economic rather than social issues, The Reform Party has done well in regards to voter distribution as well, with ethnic Russians and Estonians both flocking to the party. The Reform Party’s primary voterbase includes the young and the highly educated. In 2023 the party campaigned on eliminating the dividend tax and potentially lowering income tax rates across all brackets, should finances allow. The party is led by Kaja Kallas, an attorney and previous MEP for Estonia. She is considered a strong leader.

The Estonian Centre Party is a centrist political movement and the second largest political faction in the country. The party has struggled since 2019, where it was heavily criticized and dropped significantly in polls due to the decision to enter into coalition with the far-right Conservative People’s Party and Christian conservative Isamaa. The Centre Party is overwhelmingly popular with Estonia’s ethnic Russians, with over 75% of Estonian Russians supporting the movement as of 2019. Although the party is hemorrhaging support among both Estonians and Russians, it maintains a strong base and a popular message. Party leaders have campaigned on notions of disavowing unpopular right-wing policies brought to the table by other coalition parties. The party is considered pragmatist and tends to support whatever policies remain popular among the population, however in the early 2010s there were concerns of authoritarianism, subdued by the election of JΓΌri Ratas, who was prime minister up to the 2019 election. Overall, the party is scrambling to alter campaign policy to regain the graces of the public, primarily by focusing further

[Event] Estonian Parliamentary Elections of 2023 (and the subsequent unrest)

[m] You might want to check out my previous thread where I have succinctly described each party's ideology.

During the first hours of 13th of March, the final results of the Estonian Parliamentary Elections of 2023 were revealed. The Estonian Conservative People's Party got the most votes, with the Reform Party trailing behind the Conservatives by 3%.

The right-wing coalition government consisting of EKRE, RE and EVA was confirmed by President Kersti Kaljulaid, with Mart Helme of EKRE becoming Prime Minister. In his speech Helme talked about his plans: "We will leave the AFEU which is led by the radical socialist Germany, we will get a functional independent military, we will pursue restoring our borders as defined in the Treaty of Tartu of 1920, and we're going to thoroughly examine how 'progressive' causes are funded."

The full results are:

% Party Votes Seats
21% Estonian Conservative People's Party(EKRE) 123132 22
18% Estonian Reform Party (RE) 105542 18
15% Estonian United Left Party (VÜE) 87951 15
14% Centre Party (KE) 82088 14
13% Social Democratic Party (SDE) 76224 13
12% Estonian Freedom Party (EVA) 70361 12
7% The Greens (EER) 41044 7
100% - 586342 101

The right wing parties won very narrowly – they got a majority of only one seat in the Riigikogu. Many Russians and a few young Estonian socialists were outraged by this and decided to riot – thousands of communists and socialists took to the streets of Tallinn, Kohtla-JΓ€rve and Narva, and began looting and burning cars, just like they did in 2007. Clashes between the riot police, Russian rioters, and Estonian nationalist vigilante patrols erupted during the morning of 13th of March. By the evening the rioters in Tallinn were on the brink of defeat, but a large number of streets in Kohtla-JΓ€rve and Narva were still zones of anarchy – thousands of rioters had set up tents and camps. Tens of people had died, and as a result tensions between Estonians and Russians were at an all time high. "We will not let the fascists oppress us any longer, we will fight!" proclaimed one rioter who had managed to obtain a megaphone.

An emergency meeting was organised in the Riigikogu, with the President and all party leaders being present. Leaders and parliamentary members of the coalition parties demanded Jevgeni Ossinovski of SDE, ZΓΌleyxa Izmailova

[ELECTION] Finnish Parliamentary Elections 2023

Finland Today

Nov-Dec 2023

Following the warming of relations with Russia, many Finns are calling for even more cooperation with the Russians and to distance themselves from the EU and the increasingly unstable Sweden. The current president's term ends next year which means he will not be able to go for reelection this year and whichever party wins this election is likely to win the presidential election as well.

All 200 seats in parliament are up for grabs.

Final Results

  • Centre Party: 39
  • Finns Party: 57
  • National Coalition: 42
  • Social Democratic: 24
  • Green League: 14
