A list of puns related to "2016 Serbian Parliamentary Election"
After being delayed for a full three and a half months, it is finally time for the Serbian parliamentary elections to take place.
As gradual reopening has taken place following the pandemic being out of the picture, voters are crowded in polling stations, with voter turnout expected to surge over 60% due to the fact that they were all stuck at home for extended periods of time and can finally get some fresh air.
While some parties, including the new coalition, the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) which was only founded last year, have decided to boycott the election, due to them deeming the election irregular (The European Commission even criticized election conditions and expressed a serious concern about press freedom) and biased in favor of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) who have somehow won the popular vote in every district in 2016. It is also noted that there have been protests for three years running, which have continued after a brief pause during the state of emergency.

Anyways, there are two major players to lookout for this time.
>The SNS led coalition. They have ruled Serbia for 8 years straight, and are consistently polling much higher than anyone else, albeit the fact that the last poll is 6 months away. However, they're coming under some heavy fire for slowly taking the nation to authoritarianism, an absolutely horrendous COVID-19 response and their inability to prevent Croatia's spiral to nationalism, amongst other issues in this chaotic timeline.
>The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). Last playing the main role in 2001 when Slobodan Milosevic did some things that we

In response to a large loss in support during the 2012 election, the party has moved to the left and selected Bernie Sanders as the new leader of the Labor Party. Mitt Romney stays as the leader of the National Party due to large increases under his leadership. Cory Booker replaces longtime leader Hillary Clinton as the new head of the Liberal Party. Finally Joe Manchin is chosen as a replacement to John McCain for the Center Party.
Labor - Sanders: Labor's main campaign promises are a heightened focus on social services. Sanders specifically wants to increase access to health care and create a single-payer health care plan. He has specifically criticized the previous Labor administration for failing to do this. Labor also proposes increases to the national minimum wage and abolishing right-to-work laws, as well as make it easier for workers to join a union. Labor also advocates for increasing taxes on the wealthy especially, the top 1% of the county. The Labor Party supports making public college free for all students. If Labor were unable to form a majority, the only party they are likely to form a coalition with is the Liberal Party, however this is somewhat seen as a last resort by the current Labor administration.
National - Romney: Many of the Nationals feel robbed after becoming the largest party last election, but still remaining in opposition. The National Party has campaigned on decreasing the national debt and stimulating economic growth. Romney wants to cut income tax across the board by 20% and limit corporate tax to a maximum of 25%. The National Party wants to achieve American energy independence by next election cycle and thus supports increased oil drilling, building nuclear power plants, as well as extending the scope of fracking projects. The National Party in general supports a return to "conservative values" and is most likely to form a coalition government with the Center Party if necessary.
Liberal - Booker: The main items on the agenda for the Liberal Party are socially liberal civil rights issues. The Liberal Party promises to advance women's rights as well as affirmative action. The Liberals support combating climate change by implementing a carbon tax on fossil fuel emissions. On economic issues, the Liberals in general support the status quo and would not support large increases or decreases in taxation or government spending. Booker personally is int

Today, the election for both bodies of Serbian government is underway. Many dark-horse candidates have been lobbying for years within criminal circles for help in taking parts of the electorate. The dominant "Serbia is Winning" coalition is in danger of a large-scale collapse, or at the very minimum risk having to form a coalition with the Serbian Radical Party. The Serbian Socialist Party and its coalition is a dark horse in the race. Due to the Italian Revolution, many socialists and leftists are further galvanized and have been campaigning ravenously.
Serbian democracy is exceedingly flawed and open to corrupt processes, so it remains to be seen whether or not there has been any meddling in the parliamentary elections.
Dominant presidential candidates are as follows:
Candidate | Party Alignment |
---|---|
Aleksandar StefanoviΔ | The Serbian Progressive Party (leader for the SW Coalition) |
Danijel GavriloviΔ | Serbian Radical Party |
Aleksandar BabiΔ | Socialist Party of Serbia |
Ljubomir LonΔar | Independent (Leftist) |
Other candidates are likely not to garner many votes.
All 250 seats of the National Assembly are up for grabs.
The current layout of the Serbian National Assembly is as follows:
Party | Seats |
---|---|
"Serbia is Winning" Coalition | 101 |
Serbian Radical Party | 52 |
SPS Coalition | 43 |
Enough is Enough | 21 |
For a Just Serbia | 19 |
Dveri-DSS | 18 |
Bosniak Coalition | 6 |
Today's election could jeopardize the grip that the SW Coalition has held over the country for some years. The Serbian Progressive Party, the dominant party leading the coalition, may in fact have to negotiate with the Radicals if they make gains today.

The 2016 United States Federal Election was held on November 9th to determine the makeup of all 470 seats of the United States Parliment. Incumbent Prime Minister Barack Obama of the Liberal Party announced he would not seek a third term, leading to former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hillary Rodham Clinton to succeed him as the leader of the Liberal Party. Meanwhile, Paul Ryan of the Conservative Party sought to win a majority after their major gains in the 2012 Federal Election. Finally, T.V. Personality and former Reform Party leader, Donald Trump, sought to bring Right-Wing Populism back to the national stage under the banner of the newly formed Constitution Party.
On election night, Paul Ryan and the Conservative Party were able to win a good majority in Parliament, even winning a majority of the vote, something no Conservative has been able to do since the 1988 Federal Election. Meanwhile, the Constitution Party made incredible gains in the Midwestern Region, effectively cementing the new party as a major player in American politics. Despite their loss, the Liberal Party was able to make inroads in the heavily Conservative south, especially in Georgia and North Carolina, which would play a major role in the Liberal victory in the 2020 Federal Election.

In case you haven't noticed by all the threads that have been posted here about this the last 24 hours, our general elections take place today. There's been more foreign media attention around this one than our elections usually get, which I think is justified. This cycle has been marred by controversies and drama, which culminated in a half-year premature re-election where giants have fallen and newcomers have gained significant traction. Hopefully this post will be helpful to anyone who is interested in understanding our volatile political climate.
Some background
Back in 2013, an unprecedented left wing government coalition of the Social Democrats and the Left Greens that had reigned from 2009 fell to the more traditional right wing coalition of the Independents and the Progressive Party. The priorities of the left wing government were often criticized during the EU application process and the Icesave controversy especially, and in the end they couldn't weather the storm that was post-crash Iceland.
The new right wing coalition took the reins and led the government for three years with some mixed results. Unemployment is negligible, inflation has been kept within acceptable limits, and tourism has continued to grow explosively, to name some positives, but the negatives have also weighed heavily on the population. To name a few, our healthcare system is dangerously underfunded and has been since the crash, and the real estate market in the capital area has risen in value to the point where it can be called an affordable housing crisis.
Parties
This election cycle is unique in that it has seven parties consistently polling above the 5% minimum threshold, whereas it has practically always been either five or six. With such a split vote, forming a majority coalition can prove difficult, which opinion polls definitely do suggest.
Europhobe left wing party with a historic focus on environmentalism. Before they formed their first government in 2013, they had since their founding in 1999 been a prominent voice in the government opposition. Their current leader, KatrΓn JakobsdΓ³ttir,
