This is the first annual instance of the /r/CustomHearthstone Academy Awards! Today we'll be voting on the hot new movies, directed by all of you!

In all seriousness, as promised, here is this week's voting thread. This will run for one full week (mainly to sync up with the normal schedule), so feel free to take your time. I tried to make sure every top-level comment had at least one story, but I apologize to the couple people who I could not do that for (mainly due to broken hearthcards links)

Thanks to everyone who voted in the 1st (actually 2nd, but let’s pretend the other one doesn’t exist) r/moviescirclejerk awards! After spending the past 22.5 hours doing lots of thinking and re-evaluating, (and by that I mean I rewatched Chris Stuckmann’s reviews of the nominees) I and a team of highly-trained experts (ie. me and u/BattleUpSaber only) have decided on the OBJECTIVELY correct winners.

I should probably do this on the day of the actual Oscars, but fuck it, I want that karma now.

Presenting the winners(from the bottom up, for the sake of suspense):

Best Production Design:

While many were rooting for Infinity kino to take this round, ultimately it was le underrated gem Interstellar that prevailed, taking the award for the 5th year in a row (this is the 1st show I know, don’t question it). Bravo Nolan!

Best Visual Effects:

To the surprise of absolutely no one,Infinity War takes this category. After all, Thanos does have more realistic hands than actual hands.

Best Original Song:

An extremely tough round, this one; between the two crowd favourites, Pitbull’s Ocean to Ocean and Eminem’s Venom. Ultimately it was Ocean to Ocean who triumphed, in no small part thanks to the shitposts from yours truly. Bravo Pitbull, after being overlooked, slept on, stepped on, and left for dead, the odds weren’t always against you like Pac said. Living Great Gatsby indeed! Future contenders watch out, if you try to get rid of him, you gon have to deal with him! WOOOOOOOOOO!

Venom may have let the devil in, but didn’t know what hit eeeemmmmm.

(slightly disappointed at the lack of support for Immigrant Song and UISAL tho, ngl.)

Best Score:

Infinity War, I guess. Idk anything about scores lmao, so might as well just give it to the clear winner amirite fellas?

Makeup and Hairstyling:

Suicide Squad takes it once again, to the upset of snobby Youtube film critics everywhere. This is the one time the actual Academy actually got it right, so why not?

Best Editing:

OMG did you see how in Baby Driver all the cuts are IN SYNC with the music???? Clear winner here folks!!!!

Best Costume Design:

Infinity Kino, duh. How is this a contest? Did you see how realistic Thanos’ ass is?

I'm sure that title seems hyperbolic, but is it really? In a film full of solid performances (Tommy Lee Jones as the tired, grumpy old straight man and Will Smith as the cocksure rookie/audience surrogate), D'Onofrio had the most challenging role of all: playing an intergalactic insect inhabiting the skin of what was once a human being. It is a gonzo, full-body, balls-to-the-wall performance. The way he jerks his body around, staggering from one place to the next, twitching in inhuman ways, growling in that guttural voice, he made me BELIEVE he was a bug an in Eggar suit. In a career full of great supporting turns, Men in Black might be D'Onofrio's best.

This thought came to me as I was talking to friends about how if you remove Ford from Star Wars, it becomes a much campier, mediocre sci-fi film. What he brought to the Han Solo character you could argue is why the franchise took off. He was one of the main vehicles to bring main stream appeal to the film.

Now, this isn't a post to ask if Harrison Ford should have received an Academy Award for any of his work, but purely if there is another actor with more iconic characters in their portfolio that hasn't won.

I really can't think of a comparison, maybe I'm being short sighted.

I can think of some "comedians" (actors who are typically in comedy) that were iconic that never won (Bill Murray, for instance) and then you have Depp, RDJ, McKellen who you see on most lists. But none of them were the face of two major franchises (arguable if he's the face of Star Wars, he's certainly a face of Star Wars), plus an additional iconic film (Blade Runner).

Again, I don't know that Ford was ever snubbed, more just surprising he didn't get one.

EDIT: So I guess RDJ was the face of both Iron Man (which propelled the MCU into existence) and Sherlock. He's also had some great one-off performances, although nothing on the order of a film like Blade Runner imo. Might be that I grew up on Star Wars, but I give the edge to Ford between these two.
