Welcome back to #MARCH SMASHNESS!
Two years ago I made this post in which I simulated the entirety of March Madness in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Last year I was all set to spend way too much time on it once again when, well, you know.
But now it's 2021 and I'm back! And late! I tried my best to get the whole tournament simulated but life got in the way and I simply did not have the time to do it. But better late than never which is why I'm presenting you with the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight simulated in Super Smash Bros Ultimate!
#The Rules
Each computer's level is based on the team's seed.
Level 9 = 1 & 2 seeds
Level 8 = 3 & 4 seeds
Level 7 = 5 & 6 seeds
Level 6 = 7 & 8 seeds
Level 5 = Everyone else.
2 stock matches. 1 stock representing each half of a game.
2 minute timer. Because college basketball has time and it allows for "buzzer beater" moments. Also, I didn't want to spend too much time on this.
All matches on battlefield.
The Smash Ball AND the Smash Meter are turned on. Because who doesn't love a little bit of chaos in March?
The Poison Mushroom is on. To represent teams potentially being affected by COVID.
The good thing about making this post this late is there are only 16 teams remaining, so I don't have to scratch my head forever thinking about which team should be represented by which fighter. Still, I had one rule: No repeats. It wouldn't be as fun if every cat team was Incineroar and every bird team was Falco. I also gave preference to the higher seeded team for obvious choices.
I did my best to find some logic or reasoning for each representation, but the connections might sometimes be tenuous at best. I also did my best to select a costume for each fighter that best matched the school's colors.
#1 Gonzaga: Isabelle. Is a dog.
#5 Creighton: Falco. Creighton is the Bluejays, Falco is a blue bird.
**#6 US

For those who haven't seen, many female basketball players took to social media to share the pathetic excuse for a "weight room" they were provided by the NCAA. Spoiler alert: it's a rack of 12 dumbbells and some yoga mats, while the men were provided with THOUSANDS of dollars worth of olympic lifting equipment.
A similar disparity occurred with the food they were provided. The men seemed to have a buffet spread with tons of options including protein-rich options, while the women were given an airport-style meal with plain veggies, some mashed potatoes and honestly I don't even know what the main brown thing is supposed to be. Genuinely no idea.
This is absolutely pathetic and the NCAA should be embarrassed of themselves. We already know that men's basketball gets more hype than women's basketball (which is bullshit), but to think that one tiny dumbbell set is sufficient for the women is a straight up insult to these athletes that have worked their asses off to get here. I am NOWHERE near collegiate athlete level and I need more weights than this.
I feel so badly for the women's teams here. To be a collegiate athlete in the NCAA tournament, especially if your team normally doesn't make it, is an AMAZING accomplishment and deserves to be celebrated. Imagine high amazing you must feel before entering the practice facility/bubble for the first time, only to have this be the way the organization treats you?
There's also talk going around about how the Men's teams are receiving PCR tests every day while the Women's teams are receiving antigen tests, which are more likely to yield a false positive. NCAA clearly has the money to provide PCR tests for everyone, so what's their excuse?
It's 2021. I thought society was finally starting to recognize that women can be strong and want to be strong and are capable of high levels of strength and fitness. Apparently not...
Update: So looks like the NCAA attempted to right their wrong by providing a much bigger weight room and [two slightly improved boxed meals plus some extra food](https://www.tiktok.com/@sedonerrr/video/694189805219823
