A list of puns related to "1957 Defence White Paper"
The current strengths of Iranโs military and geostrategic position are relatively clear. Most of Iranโs population, industry, and transportation infrastructure is concentrated in the broad area between the Zagros and Alborz mountains, in terrain which is itself quite mountainous. However, Iranโs most economically important province, Khuzestan, containing Iranโs rail links to the sea, its oil industry, and a significant portion of its industry, is located on the other side of the Zagros, on the Mesopotamian coastal plain.
While Iran therefore presents a difficult target to crack for any possible enemy due to the terrain, it also possesses a number of key weaknesses. The defense of Iranโs frontiers relies heavily on the continued operation of the Trans-Iranian Railway. While recent resiliency upgrades have dramatically reduced the vulnerability of the railroad to small-scale attacks and terrorist activity, a concerted air attack stands a good chance of dealing crippling damage by destroying some vital railway bridge or seizing some town or city along the mainline (especially Tehran, which is still effectively the junction for the entire rail network despite the recent construction of a bypass). This, however, can also be used to Iranโs advantage - any attack which reaches deep enough into the country can be foiled by a successful campaign of sabotage or air interdiction.
Iran has two vital sources for the foreign supplies upon which its military currently depends. The first and most important source is the Persian Gulf ports of Bandar Shahpur at the southern terminus of the Trans-Iranian. While not so vulnerable as, say Abadan, Shahpur is still perilously close to the border and furthermore located in a region with a large and potentially dangerous Arab minority. The other source is the still under construction Iran-Turkey transport corridor, which is also located rather close to both the UAR and USSR, though in terrain fairly defensible from ground assault.
Iran has a fairly formidable army of around ~220,000 organized into 11 infantry divisions, an armored division, an independent armored regiment, and two Imperial Guards brigades mostly intended to protect against coups and revolutions. Three divisions and an armored brigade are stationed on the UAR border, six infantry divisions along the Soviet border, and a reserve corps of two infantry divisions and the armored division in t

> In light of the escalating tensions in Korea and Vietnam, the Government of Japan has ordered a major white paper investigating the current defensive capabilities of the JSDF, the legal standing thereof, and to make recommendations for policy in the future.
Legal Standing of the JSDF
> The legal position of the JSDF was challenged in court several years ago. The outcome of the court case established that the JSDF exists within the bounds of the constitution, but placed two major limitations on the activities of the force:
> * The JSDF may not deploy outside Japan, excepting in circumstances where the State of Japan has already come under attack.
> The Government of Prime Minister Shiki have pledged to uphold the pacifist character of the constitution, but in light of the mounting conflict in Korea and Vietnam, are left wondering if perhaps the essential limitation against Japan engaging in collective security arrangements excepting those agreements where, in essence, Japan seeks allies to act as a shield without any expectation of reciprocity. Obviously, this has the potential to seriously undermine any attempts by Japan to forge regional security agreements.
> In accordance with the findings of a Commission of the National Diet established by Prime Minister Shiki, the government will make moves to amend Article 9 of the Constitution in such a fashion that deployment of the JSDF abroad, in such cases as upholds Japan's commitment to pacifism, is permissible in support of collective security agreements.

>In accordance with the guidelines and protocols previously established by the Masjlis Persekutuan and the Kementerian Pertahanan Persekutuan Nusantara, this White Paper mandated by the office of His Supreme Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Nusantara and by the Masjlis Persekutuan has been accomplished with the contribution of all stakeholders.
>As the largest archipelago country in the world, with one foot in Asia and one foot in Oceania, the Nusantara League remains in a unique geographical position. The past decade has been one fraught with insecurity, aggression, global belligerence, and tensions boiling over, and Nusantara must carefully reassess its stance for an uncertain future. We must work to defend our borders and maintain regional stability in cooperation with like-minded states, while ensuring that we can stand up on our own and forge our own destiny as one nation.
>In the context of foreign policy, Nusantara prioritizes a free and active foreign policy, and is guided by the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in its relations with the rest of the world. This Persekutuan will continue to work cooperatively within the Indo-Pacific region to achieve consensus and encourage peaceful resolutions to disagreements in accordance with its principles. With that said, the Nusantara League must strive to maintain and defend its own sovereign interests and principles, both at home and abroad, and must maintain the capabilities to do so.
>As the regional and global strategic environment continues to shift and evolve, Nusantara must strive to meet and address complex threats before they may endanger national security interests. These threats are multidimensional, vary in form, and require an integrated all-of-society approach to build a strong, secure, united, and prosperous society.

The Republic of Ireland is faced with intermediate strategic threats at both a conventional and unconventional level. While the Government does not consider these threats to be existential or imminent, Irish national security would nonetheless be prejudiced if they were not factored into the Republicโs long-term strategic planning.
At a conventional level, Ireland must consider the security of the island of Ireland as well as the security of the European Union (EU) more broadly. With respect to the former, the Government asserts that Irelandโs aerial and maritime patrol capabilities remain below par. Concerning the EU, the Government considers the Defence Forcesโ capabilities across the three standing service branches to be inadequate.
Meanwhile, regarding unconventional threats, the Government remains eager to strengthen the Defence Forcesโ ability to support domestic agencies in their mission to preserve human security across the Republic and the island of Ireland more broadly. The Government considers violent political extremism, climate change, harmful digital activity, critical infrastructure failure and disease spread as unconventional threats to Irish security. Ireland is also eager to contribute to European security in a broader sense by improving human security within the EU and across the European periphery.
The Government is confident that the planning contained within this document will contribute meaningfully to achieving Irish strategic objectives at a conventional, unconventional, regional and global level.
##Army:
The Army remains committed to upholding political stability and human security on behalf of the democratically-elected Government of Ireland. The Government assesses that the regular forces of the Army are staffed and equipped at a satisfactory level to guarantee the defence of the Republic at a conventional level given the current strategic climate.
As the Government relies on international engagement to prevent kinetic state-on-state conflict, it is assessed that the Army does not require additional armoured, artillery or small arms capabilities. The Government therefore remains committed to maintaining current capabilities via routine replenishment and new procurements if necessary. Moreover, since the Government views the Army as a vital asset in countering violent political extremism and other unconventional threats across the island of Ireland

Scientific Research & Technological Advances
Technology has been moving forward in leaps and bounds over the last decade. Weapons are going from brand new to obsolete within a matter of years. Military planning must become flexible in order to keep up with innovations in technology, requiring a comprehensive rethink of military policy.
Innovation should be focused on key sectors of the military, with emphasis on the defence of the British nuclear deterrent, extending the capabilities of Britainโs nuclear deterrent, and improving the effectiveness of infantry on the battlefield.
With the advance of military technology. Commonwealth co-operation on the research & development of new technologies is of growing importance. Great Britain already works strongly with Australia, and should rebuild this relationship with Canada and other commonwealth nations.
Great Britainโs Responsibilities
Great Britain must undertake a responsibility to deter and resist any aggression across the globe that may threaten regional or global peace.
Britainโs Armed Forces must be willing & capable of defending British Colonies and protected territories against local attack by any reasonable means necessary.
The global trend is towards the creation of integrated allied forces. Britain should begin talks with the United States to strengthen their mutual relations to levels matching or exceeding those seen during the second world war.
Nuclear Deterrent
Whilst strong consideration must be made to prevent war, consideration must also be made in preparing for a nuclear war and its aftermath, in both the short term, and the long term. Serious talks concerning both the Nuclear Deterrent and its defense must be at the forefront of British military planning in the years ahead.
The British Government should begin studying the costs & logistics of establishing an urban missile bunker program to protect a select number of civilians in the event of a nuclear attack, based on the presumption that nuclear attacks would likely be focused on London and other major cities.
At present, Britainโs nuclear deterrent is based around the V Bomber program, consisting of three advanced bomber designs rivaling any contemporary designs from other nations. Within the next decade, it will be supplemented by domestically produced ballistic missiles which are currently undergoing development.
In light of the potent

##A Review and Statement of Intent for the Swedish Armed Forces for the Foreseeable Future
This is a review of the Swedish Armed Forces as it currently exists in 1968, including the expected changes to the forces over the coming years, as well as a statement of intent for the future of the Swedish Armed Forces and how it can be used to best defend Swedish threats, and protect Swedish interests, domestically and abroad. This has been put forward by prominent officers within the Armed Forces, with cross-party government support, and is now government policy for the foreseeable future.
Sweden faces an existential threat of a global nuclear war. Sweden sits in the middle of two alliances, both of which would be likely to violate Swedish borders in the event of a serious crisis. The current doctrine, like many armed neutral countries, has been to make the potential invasion of Sweden too expensive, time consuming, and deadly for foreign actors to consider.
The neutrality of Sweden in foreign affairs is of paramount importance to the state.
###Army and Home Guard
The exact size of the Swedish Army is difficult to pin down, owing to the large amount of paramilitary forces that run local defences in Swedish towns and factories across the country. A good estimate for the size of these paramiltary forces, of which at least a quarter are women, is around 1 million soldiers. Regulars, conscripts, and reservists make up the rest of the army, numbering around 120,000 in peacetime. The professional forces are entirely mechanised.
For their size, the Swedish land forces are very effective, therefore little reform is needed in this realm. The switch to NATO standards in the 1960s has streamlined logistics and made it possible for Swedish arms manufacturers to compete for contracts across Europe. And the incoming new tank, the Strv 103, will make any invasion of Sweden challenging for an aggressor.
Total defence policies will be continued, enforcing the necessity that all new buildings have bomb shelters, all new bridges have places for explosives, all civilians have a war plan, etc. Also the static coastal defence installations shall be maintained.

##MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
The Ministry of Defence continually reassesses the needs and demands placed upon the Armed Forces in ensuring the territorial integrity of the nation. The Armed Forces have significant demands placed upon them, as they are not only the primary military force of the nation; they are also heavily involved in policing, especially outside the bounds of the urban centre of Delhi.
As a result of the wide responsibilities and the growing territorial frontiers of the nation, the MoD has recommended to the government that the budget for FY2110-2111 should include provisions to establish a new Brigade-Level command for the Army. The army currently deploys three brigades. During peace-time these brigades tend to be spread out, with company-level formations deployed as-needed for internal policing duties. But during wartime the brigades are expected to operate as a discrete, combined-arms unit with support from the Army Air Corps.
All Army Brigades feature identical organisations, and the MoD proposes expanding this to a fourth brigade to be raised over the course of this year and next. Further, in the coming years the reinforcement of the combined-arms brigades should be considered, along with the eventual raising of more specialised units.
The MoD has declined to recommend funding increases for the Army Air Corps this year; believing that their force as of now is sufficient.
Seriously.. Did any of you did? Asking a genuine question here.. Am i the only one who feels that its a bit lacking?

It is important that a power such as France regularly reviews its defence capabilities in relation to the global situation, yet we have conducted no such review since 2013. As we are once more flexing our military muscle across the globe with the war in Suriname, it is even more imperative that our capabilities are reviewed and any deficiencies are corrected. With this in mind, the Ministry of Defence in conjunction with the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs has prepared a white paper on the armed forces to form the basis of policy for the next decade.
State of the World
The Home Front โ Europe
Despite civil wars in Ukraine and Belarus, Russia has remained largely passive in Europe, refusing to take risks in the conflicts on its borders. As a result, Europe-wide tensions are almost non-existent โ a welcome change from the 2010s. Any large confrontation between EU nations and Russia is therefore highly unlikely, so there will be no increase in preparation for this eventuality.
The Republic of Turkeyโs rejection of Erdogan-era authoritarianism and rapid democratisation has also worked to reduce tensions in Eastern Europe. The new government recently extended an olive branch relating to the Cyprus dispute, which could well solve the only territorial dispute in the European Union. Given the positive impact this is having on the region, we should encourage any Turkish move towards Europe in the interests of cementing this democratic and co-operative new regime.
Unfortunately, Europe has not improved in all areas. Hungary, long a thorn in the side of the EU, has embraced a hyper-nationalist and fascist government which could threaten regional stability. Diplomatic action through the EU has been used to apply pressure to the regime, but it remains a possibility (however unlikely) that this could cause the government to lash out. There will never be political will in France to instigate intervention in Hungary, but the military ought to prepare for the possibility of Hungary aligning itself with a more hostile great power such as China or Russia.
The USAโs Stomping Ground โ The Americas
Despite wars in Suriname and Guyana, our position in the Americas has remained fairly consistent since the last white paper. The hostile Suriname regime is not expected to be able to threaten French Guiana, as its fa

In order to provide unified command, control and direction of the armed forces by the civilian government, a Defence Board of Thailand will be created, which will oversee both the operational and strategic policy of the defence of the realm, as well as day-to-day matters through subcommittees. The Defence Board will also take over from the Defence Council of Thailand, which has grown in size to ungainly proportions. The membership of the board will be as follows;
Minister of Defence; as chair
Deputy Minister(s) of Defence, acting as vice-chairs
Permanent-Secretary of Defence
Deputy Permanent-Secretary of Defence
Director-General of Finance, Ministry of Defence
Director-General, Defence Audit Office
Chief of the Defence Staff
Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff
This will allow for direct civilian control of the armed forces in regards to policy and oversight.
In terms of operational command, a new Joint Staff Council will be created as the highest command level of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, with powers in peace and war, replacing the old Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters. The council will be chaired by the Chief of the Defence Staff, who will be the professional head of the armed forces, assisted by a Vice-Chief who will be from a different service branch. Other members of the JSC will be the chiefs of staff for each service.
Promotion of senior officers
The mandatory retirement age will be increased from 60 to 65, reducing the pressure and bottlenecking which has resulted in an extremely high turnover rate for senior officers. Additionally, the promotions system will be reformed. All 3-4-star billets will now be fixed to a statutory term of 2 years, renewable twice. At the same time, an โup-or-outโ system will be implemented for officers at the O-5 (Colonel/Captain/Group Captain) grade and above, with officers who spend 5 years in the grade without prospect for promotion above being mandatorily retired. The 1-star Brigadier General/Commodore/Air Commodore rank will be reintroduced, but in order to prevent the over-inflation of flag ranks the total number of billets at 1-star rank and above will be statutorily limited by Parliament. All promotions to the grades of O-6 and above will now be subject to a two-stage procedure. Firstly will be the serviceโs respective promotion board, which will identify candidates suitable for their stars and conduct preliminary interviews and revie

Be that illegal fishing, air policing or close air support for our allies in the DAMNED. Cyprus's military must modernize and reform, from a force dedicated to one cause, to a true modern multi role force. Planners within the ministry of defence as well as civilian expert's all agree Cyprus's new military priority must be its air force and it's navy. Of course to do this Cyprus will see a massively increased defense budget, including a short term boost in procurement funding over the next 5 years. Part of the way to achieve these costs will be the reduction in the size of the reserves army from 75,000 to 45,000. While the size of the standard armed forces will grow to 13,000 to support the new program's. However the size of the army will be reduced with extra jobs being made in the navy and air force.
Air force The current air force comprises of mainly rotary wing aircraft. Although these helicopters are good and useful there range is limited as well as there effectiveness against shipping is lacking.
Ministry officials have concluded that best option for Cyprus will be a limited fast jet fleet. This fleet of up to 24 aircraft will be acquired over 5 years at a maximum cost of $600 Million. At the same time, but over a shorter period of 2 years Cyprus will acquire 12 basic trainer aircraft for a maximum cost of $20 million. An additional $40 million will go into the setting up of a training program for Cypriot pilots with Cyprus looking to hire old USAF and RJAF pilots and trainers to train its flight crews. The last cost associated with the new program ($20 million )will be the acquisition of spare parts for the aircraft as well as specialised tools and training of maintenance personnel.
Air force expansion total funding: $700 million
Navy The navy is currently little more then a coast guard possessing a small fleet of patrol boats and offshore patrol vessels. The ministry of defence has concluded that, the navy will need to become a frigate fielding navy. Over 10 years the navy aims to field up to two submarines and three small corvettes or destroyers. These forces will be used to defend Cyprus's eez as well as cooperation with international forces in disaster relief and anti insurgency operations in the middle east and beyond. The current budget fo
