A list of puns related to "1924 Cicero, Illinois Municipal Elections"
Heads up, don't vote Hoover because you think Underwood is racist because he's a Democrat in the 1920s. He isn't
The time has come. After four years of a really mixed Presidency by Harding, it is time for the next election cycle.
But first, let's go over the candidates.
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES:
Secretary of Commerce, Herbert Hoover
Hoover, a long opponent of the corrupt and ineffective Presidency of Harding, made a bid to replace him in 1924. To his own surprise, he won. He is running on a staunch anti-corruption, pro farmer, and pro worker platform. His main goal is to restore faith in Washington, and help the farmer and worker by creating farming and unemployment subsidies, albeit for striking workers only. Hoover was also nominated by the Farmer-Labor Party, which has gained more momentum following Harding's Presidency.
Vice President Calvin Coolidge
The incumbent Vice President has been renominated, much to the dismay of Hoover, who had hoped for his wing of the party's backed candidate, LaGuardia to be nominated. Calvin Coolidge is dedicated to Laissez-Faire Economics, and may even vote against some of Hoover's reforms.
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES:
Underwood is quite the anomaly. You'd expect a Democrat from Alabama to be very racist, but he is quite the opposite. .A Progressive, Underwood will most likely put in place a lot of Hoover's planned reforms, but would prefer to focus on expanding Civil Rights, mainly taking down what he hated most: The KKK. Citing Grant as his main role model, Underwood plans to take down the KKK as swift as he can. Not only that, but he opposes federal Prohibiton
Also a staunch Progressive, Bryan supports the reforms that are planned under a Underwood or Hoover administration. However, he is mostly focused on Farm subsidies. He also is the brother to the ever popular William Jennings Bryan, and will almost certainly do numbers out west.

Final results for the 1924 Election
"We can now call California for Herbert Hoover, meaning Hoover has now been elected the 30th President of the United States of America. I repeat, Herbert Hoover of California has been elected the 30th President of the United States."
Underwood had tried so hard, and he got so close to winning, but fell short. With his concession speech in hand, he talked to a crowd of supporters in Richmond, Virginia.
"It is with a heavy heart, that I report that Hoover has been elected the President of the United States. While many of you are, I am not disappointed. I am sure now President-Elect Hoover will do an excellent job as our President. And we finished in a strong 2nd. We are no longer the embarrassment we were in 1920. This Election proves the Democratic Party is strong as ever."
Meanwhile, Hoover greeted a roaring crowd in San Francisco.
"People of America, and San Francisco in particular at this moment, I thank you. I thank you all. Together we beat the corruption in the Harding administration, and now we will make a more prosperous America. It has been a wild ride, this election, and I look forward to serving you as your President."
Hoover then listed his goals for his first term.
At Hoover's inauguration were former President Harding, Underwood, and former President now Chief Justice Taft, who preformed the inauguration.
For the first time in a while, Hoover and Harding were seen having a good time together. Underwood and Hoover also talked and laughed, getting along really well.
With Harding's Presidency was...a mixed bag. While many liked his dedication for Civil Rights, many did not like the rampant corruption going on within his Cabinet. One of his own Cabinet Members, Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover, with his many issues with the Harding Administration, decided to attempt to primary him.
Candidates:
Warren G. Harding:
The Incumbent President. Harding definitely has the backing of most establishment Republicans, and has made a vow to change up his cabinet picks. Many, however, do not believe him as he continues to stand by Daugherty. Harding has brought up his accomplishments, such as the Washington Conference. He also complimented Hoover for doing a nice job as Secretary of Commerce, compared to Hoover's constant attacks on the President.
Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover:
His own Secretary of Commerce is tired of Harding's shit. Hoover is running on a campaign to help the worker and farmer via Farming Subsidies and working out peaceful resolutions to strikes. He's already made a list of Cabinet Picks that he believes are perfectly qualified and not corrupt. Hoover is constantly throwing attacks on Harding, which has turned off many Republicans, but pleases Robert LaFollette, who is probably Hoover's biggest supporter.

The Republican Nominee for President in 1924, Herbert Clark Hoover
The Republican Nominee for Vice President in 1924, John Calvin Coolidge jr.
It was on the 6th ballot that the winner was announced. Hoover had won. Harding would be denied a second term, the first time this has happened this Andrew Johnson in 1868 (Yes I know about Arthur, but he gave a purposeful half assed attempt, so he doesn't really count IMO). Herbert Hoover and his supporters celebrated...until the Vice President was to be selected.
Hoover had hoped and prayed that his pick, Fiorello LaGuardia would beat incumbent Calvin Coolidge. But he was mistaken. Coolidge was renominated, beating LaGuardia and Curtis on the 3rd ballot. This infuriated Hoover, and made him feel like the party did not endorse his ideas, but he was more seen as a "lesser of two evils." President Harding noticed this, and wrote in his diary "Every time the Vice President and Secretary are within 10 feet of each other, Clark always has this solemn stare at Coolidge. It's almost like Coolidge committed some atrocity to his family."
Harding stood upon a pedestal, with a stand for him to speak from. He gave his concession speech.
"My fellow Americans. It has been quite the honor to serve you. It makes me very sad to see that you did not think I did good enough of a job to deserve a second term. Well, for those grieving at this loss, I will remind you. You are in good hands. I know Secretary Hoover, and he will do a wonderful job if elected. And I am quite happy I can retire in Ohio with Florence. I thank you for nominating me those four years ago, and hope that Hoover and Coolidge will continue with the greatness of our party."
The men of the convention cheered, and Hoover shook the Presidents hand. It was the very first positive interaction between them since 1921.
Itβs a difficult choice. It was a difficult choice in OTL as well. Chamberlain only won by 77 votes.
A victory of AAPs governance model. The worst outcome here would be that Chandigarh has 14 watchdogs to keep corrupt practices in corporation at bay.
Plus this will have huge and decisive impact in results of upcoming elections in Punjab.
While AAP is short of the majority mark so not sure what transpires in formation of municipal government, one thing is clear, you keep working hard and deliver in Delhi on your promises, people in other parts of country will start to take notice.
After a crushing defeat in 1924, the Democrats are eager for their revenge. Five big candidates stand up to get their party's nomination and restore the Democrats to their former glory.
Candidates:
Secretary William Gibbs McAdoo
William McAdoo was the Secretary of the Treasury under the Wilson administration, and is the son in law of President Wilson. McAdoo is known for his energy and enthusiasm, and would bring much needed energy to the ticket. He is also an ally of the Progressive Movement, and if he and Hoover are nominated, it would almost certainly be the beginning of a new Progressive Era.
Al Smith is the incumbent Governor of New York. Also a Progressive, Smith is well liked by the Democratic establishment. However, his Catholicism and heavy association with Tammany Hall may be liabilities for the Democrats.
John Davis, former Representative from Virginia turned UK ambassador under the Wilson administration, also throws his hat in the ring for the nomination. Davis has appeal to both wings of the party, but has little appeal from the rest of the south for his pro segregation stance (despite supporting black voting rights prior in his career).
Oscar Underwood is a senator from Alabama. He is known for his anti-KKK stances. Despite threats from the KKK, Underwood stood strong. Underwood is also anti-prohibition. He is also a supporter of Wilson's progressive reforms. Underwood's anti-KKK stance could potentially help out in the North.
A former Populist, the former Secretary of Agriculture would definitely help in retaking the west from the Republicans. Other than that, not much is known about him nationally, and he is only really known amongst rural voters out west.

... keep reading on reddit β‘With the battle of Hoover vs. Harding raging on, the Republicans decide to reconvene later in the month and discuss the Vice Presidential Selections. There are three major candidates in the running.
Candidates:
Vice President Calvin Coolidge
Calvin Coolidge: Coolidge is the incumbent Vice President, and one of the less corrupt figures in the Harding administration. He is trusted and well liked by many, although the Hoover Camp criticizes him for his dedication to laissez faire economics, and refusal to expand the government to help the struggling farmers and workers.
Representative Fiorello LaGuardia
Fiorello LaGuardia: LaGuardia is a well liked man, and staunch ally of LaFollette, and the favorite of the Hoover Camp. He is a trusted man, and would almost certainly synch New York City, and thus New York, for the Republicans (although there is little doubt they'd go to the Republicans). One big criticism of his is his association with the Socialist Party.
Charles Curtis: Charles Curtis is a towering figure within the Republican Party. He is well liked by both camps, and his selection would almost certainly unite the party. He is no Progressive, by any means, and is a more Conservative member of the party, but he is always able to make deals with the other factions.
(Next Part: The 1924 Democratic National Convention)
(NOTE: Don't vote for Coolidge based solely on his Presidency. He was never President. So don't let that influence your vote.)
As the battle of New York rages on, a new battle arises. Who will be Vice President? There are only 3 Candidates with a series chance at the position.
Candidates:
Jonathan M. Davis is the incumbent Governor of Kansas, and he has quite the resume. As Governor, Davis cut taxes, endorsed women's rights and prohibition, increased funding secured for veteran's pensions, limited banking procedures, authorized an improved road bill, and controlled utilities. Davis is most definitely fit for the job.
The mayor of New York steps up for a shot at the Vice Presidency. He is known for fighting against big business interests to try and protect the working man. He will be the correct choice if the Democrats choose to go full on Progressive Populist.
The Governor of Nebraska, and younger brother to the legendary William Jennings Bryan, has decided to run for Vice President. If he is picked, it will be mostly due to name recognition. Voters out west definitely remember the Bryan name, and could either bolster a populist ticket, or balance out a Conservative candidate such as John Davis with a populist one.
As the Election for President rages on, it is time to find out who will win the House and Senate.
Democratic Party
Leader: Joseph Robinson
The Battle of New York (1924 Democratic National Convention) really did paint the future for the Democratic Party. They nominated Underwood, a progressive, liberal, civil rights advocate. Obviously there are more Conservative members, mainly John Davis, but if they continue nominating people such as Underwood, the Democratic Party could return to the Progressive ways of WJB.
Republican Party
Leader: Henry Cabot Lodge (Unofficial)
While it may seem the Republicans are heading in a more Progressive direction due to the nomination of Herbert Hoover, this may not be the case. Harding was a pretty unpopular President, and many believe Hoover would have a better shot at beating whoever the Democratic Candidate for President was. Hoover did only barely beat Harding for the nomination
Farmer-Labor Party
Leader: Magnus Johnson (Defacto, unofficial)
The Farmer-Labor Party is currently a relatively minor third party, albeit, one with two seats in the Senate and three seats in the House. The Farmer-Labor Party has picked up steam recently, mainly due to Harding's Presidency and the fact that they nominated Herbert Hoover for President in 1924. Hoover's association with the party was what led to many Progressive Republicans and Democrats, such as Robert LaFollette, to become official members of the party. They do lean a tad Socialist, but they are not technically Socialist, more just Leftist.
Is this the likely culprit of a 4 day delay? No alerts in fedex other than the delay
J. Calvin Coolidge
John W. Davis
Robert M. La Follette
Yes, I did just copy and paste the descriptions.
